H. }{~ks and me concerning the elimination of the ~.~
residency requirement as has been requested by the Police Department. At this meeting no agreement oould
be established between the two departments.
Other than the two committees, it was our opinion that there was no
reason that this residency requirement could not be eliminated for the Police and not for the Fire Department;
however~ in an attempt to reach what we thought would be a solution to satisfy both departments, 8
representatives from each department was invited back the next day and the following proposition submitted
to them:
~That a resolution be adopted by the City Council which would all~ the
Civil Service Commission to drop the residency requirement of I year to no residency requirement for either
the Fire or Police Department, if so requested by either department.'
This would be an amendment to the present Charter provision, whereby the
Civil Service gommission is allowed~to reduce the residency requirement from 1 year to 6 months. At the
present time, theCommission is operating under the 6 months residency requirement.
The representatives of the two departments were requested to take this
alternate proposal to their respective departments and advise this office of the feelings of the two
departments concerning this.
The Police Department advised this office that this amendment would be
satisfactory to them. The Fire Department advised that the committee approved the alternate proposal;
however, when it was submitted to the members of the local, they veted it down."

adopted.

Motion of Mr. Barnes to suspend the rules and hear from interested persons was

The following spoke:

Sergeant J.
