66-159 - The following letter from the Director of Planning was r6ad: <br /> <br /> "At its regular monthly meeting on Augustg, 19~6, the City Planning Commission <br />resolved to endorse the severance of Riverside Drive from ~igh Street at the approach to the <br />Churchland Bridge." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Johnson that the report he received as information and that the City <br />Manager be auZhorized to p~oceed with the work, was adopted, without dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> 66-140 - The report of the Division-off'Corrections, Department of Welfare and Institutions <br />on the lockup of ~he City o~ Portsmouth 'was presented, and on motion of Mr. Knight, received as <br />information. <br /> <br /> 66-141 - The report of th Dlvls~on of Corrections, Department of l~elfare and Institutions, <br />on the jail of the City of Portsmouth, was presented, and on motion of Mr. Hastes, received as <br />infolunation. <br /> <br />66-142 - The following letter from the City Clerk was read: <br /> <br /> "The term of office of Dr. Neit Callahan, on the Portsmouth Redevelopment and <br />Housing Authority, expires on September llth, 1966." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Knight to refer to a conference of the Council was adopted, without <br />dissenting vote. <br /> <br />66-145 - The following letter from the City Clerk was read: <br /> <br /> "The term of office of A. V. Deal on the Board of Adjustments and Appeals <br />expires 6n September 1st, 1966" <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Hastes to refer to a conference of the Council was adopted, without <br />dissenting 9otc. <br /> <br />66-144 - On motion of Mr. Johnson, the following resignation of Mr. Hugh Johnston, from the <br />City Planning Conunission, was read, and received with regret, and an expression of thanks for <br />his services on the Commission: <br /> <br /> "I am, by thiA letter, requesting that my membership on the Portsmouth City Planning Commission <br />be terminated. I realize that the Council must adhere to its established policies, one of which <br />I have now found to be that persons connected with the real estate business should not serve <br />on the City Planning Commission. Since my membership on the Planning Commission is clearly in <br />violation of the Council's policy, there is no question ~n my m~nd but that I must withdraw. <br /> <br /> I should like to take this occasion to thank the Council for its confidence in appointing <br />me in the f~rst place, and also to thaRk the ~lanni~g Commission and especially its chairman, for the <br />numerous courtesies and the co-operation e~ended to me while I sec'red. I found the service to be <br />both gratifying and instructive, and I appreciate the honor of having been associated with this <br />group. <br /> <br /> In the meantime, I assure you of my continued interest in the city's behalf." <br /> of Pinners P~int prepared which will give current information <br /> 66-145 - Motion of Mr. Hastes that the C~ty Manager have a map/on the property there, with <br />a view to future plans, was adopted, without dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> 66~146 - Motion of Mr. Barnes that the City Attorney draft a resolution commending the <br />Marauders for consideration of this area for the~ annual convention was adopted, a copy of the <br />resolution to be sent to Herbert Clafine, P~esident, Marauders' Association. <br /> <br />On motion adjourned. <br /> <br />Approved - <br /> <br />President <br /> <br />- City,Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
