Due to ~he scope <br />of inspections and enforcement required being broad, it is not possible to give a detailed account <br />of the many hours spent inspecting and testing weighing and measuring devices, or supervising and <br />enforcing the Weights and Measures Law enforcement. <br /> <br /> It is gratifyihg to note the improvement of newspaper hafldbill and store window ads as well <br />as in store pricing. Mr. Duke and other representatives from this Department received splendid cooper- <br />ation from local stores and the newspaper when contacted in regard to grocery ads in the newspapers. A <br />marked improvement in these grocery ads has been noted. <br /> <br /> As per our agreement, I am enclosing a bill in the amount of $3,000 for services rendered <br />in testing and inspecting weighing and measuring devices and enforcing the Virginia Weights and <br />Measures Law in Portsmouth City for the period ending June ~0, 1966. <br /> <br /> If we can assist you in any way, please contact this office or MM. Box 94, <br />Driver, Virginia, telephone number 539-5984." - <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Knight that the re~ort be referred to a conference of the Council, with the <br />request that the City Manager obtain such information from Deoartment heads as may be available, was <br />adopted, without dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> 66-135 - "In conformance with our policy adopted in 1965, I am advising the City Council that <br />we are prepared to begin our Code Enforcement, Program in the West Brighton Area of the City. <br /> <br /> Maps have been prepared for this prog=am, and representatives of Harrison and Lee <br />Ward Civic Leagues have been contacted by City officials regarding this enforcement program. <br /> <br />This is submitted for your information." <br /> <br />Motion of Mr. Barnes to receive as ~nformat~on was adopted, without dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> <br />
