January 10:1967 <br /> <br />At a regular meeting of the City Council, held on January 10, 1967, there were present: <br /> <br /> R. Irvine Smith, George D. Eastes, Burrell R. Jobmson, Isaac W. King, W. T. Leery, <br /> A. P. Johnson, Jr., City Manager, and M. A. Kerb, Jr., City Attorney <br /> <br />The meeting was opened with prayer by Rev. R. H. Eason, pastor, Park View blethodist Church. <br /> <br />Minutes of regular meeting held on December 27, 1966, were read and approved; <br /> <br />The following reports from the City Manager were read: <br /> <br /> 67-1 - "I submit the attached ordinance and recommend that it be placed on first reading. <br />This appropriates $425 for the purchase of tax delinquent property, Lot 119 on Jackson <br />Avenue in Pinners Point. <br /> This.is being acquired in conjunction with the development of Pinners Point for <br />industrial purposes." <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Knight, the following ordinance was approved on first reading, without <br />dissenting vote: <br /> <br />"AN ORDINanCE TO APPROPRIATE $425,00 FROM TF~ GENEk~L C.~DITAL IMPROVEMENT FUND FOR <br />THE PURCHASE OFLLOT 119, JACKSON AVENUE IN PINNERS POINT" <br /> <br /> 67-2 - "I submit the attached ordinance and recommend that it be placed on£first reading. <br /> This appropriates $475 for the purchase of Lots 15 & 14, Block V, <br />Fitzgerald Street in Truxton. <br /> This tax delinquent property which is being acquired for the expansion of the <br />Truxton School playground." <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Johnson, the following ordinance was approved on first reading, without <br />dissenting vote: <br /> <br />"AN ORDINP~NCE TO APPROPRIATE $475.00 FROM THE GENERAL CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT FUND FOR <br />THE PURCHASE OF LOTS 1S AND 1~ BLOCK V, FITZGEP~LD STREET, AS SHOWN ON 5t&P OF <br />TRUXTON" <br /> <br /> 67-5 - "I submit the attached ordinance and recommmnd that it be olaced on first reading. <br />This appropriates $1,721.60 as Portsmouth's share for the operation of the Tourist Information <br />Center at the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. <br /> <br /> This represents a cost of 1 1/2~?er capita which will be pa~d .by Portsmouth <br />and Chesapeake;' Norfolk and Virginia Beach Will contribute 3¢ per capita. <br /> <br /> This will operate the center until the Touris~ Information Booth which is <br />being constructed by the State can be opendddon U. S. 13, south of the Maryland line." <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Leary, the following ordinance was approved on first reading, without <br />dissenting vote: <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE TO APPROPRIATE $1,721.60 FROM ~{E GENERA~ F~D FOR THE OPERATION OF THE <br />TOURIST INFORMATION CENTER AT THE AP~RORCH TO TNE C~.SAPEAKE BAY BRIDGE-TUNNEL SYSTFA{" <br /> <br /> 67~4 - "I submit the attached ordinance and recommend that it be placed on first <br />reading. This appropriates $225,000 for modifications to the Sewage Treatment Plant. <br /> Low bids received on six contracts for these modifications to the plant are as <br />follows: <br /> <br />Contracts <br /> <br /> B & C Fergusson Corporation 131,150.00 <br /> D.& EL Ocean Electric Corporation 36,100.00 <br /> F Eimco Corporation 39,159.00 <br /> G Wallace and Tiernan 15,595.00 <br /> I further recommend that these contracts be awarded to the above low bidders. <br />This work is being financed from the Sewage Revenue Bond issue of last year." <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Eastes, the recommendation of the City Manager to award the six contracts, <br />and to place the following ordinance on first reading~ was adopted, without dissenting vote: <br /> <br />"AN ORDIN;~qCE TO APPRORRIATE $225,000.00 FROM THE GENERAL CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT FUND <br />FOR MODIFICATION OF THE SELVAGE TREAT~,IENT PLANT' <br /> <br /> 67-5 - "I submit the attached ordinance and recommend that it be placed on first reading. <br />This appropriates $7,500 fey the operation of the Traffic Engineering Department for the <br />balance of the fiscal year; <br /> This department has been operating under the Building Official's 0ffic~Sbut is <br />being separated for better efficiency? <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr..Leafy, the following ordinance was approved on,first reading, without dissenting <br />vote: <br /> <br /> "AN ORDINANCE TO APPROPRIATE $7,500.00 FROM THE GENERAL FUND FOR THE OPERATION OF THE TRAFFIC <br /> ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT" <br /> <br /> <br />
