January 24. 1967

Some of the enlisted men here cannot afford such a luxury and provide for a family alee.
To them this means milR and bread. They can't help being in the service, but have to get to work
and be sure of not getting tickets for violations of parking regulations.
The City derives revenue from lunches~ purchases in the stores made by the servicemen and
civilians that work in this building, why tax them to death now by parking meters?
The Coast Guard Wives Club donated the Lightship to the City for them to use as they saw
~it; tke revenue from it to be re{aimed by the City, now they turn around and bite the hands that
helped feed them.
If there is ~nything you c~n do to help this situation I ~ sure you ¥~uld have the undying
gratitude of all concerned.
Many th~nks for your time and trouble."

Motion of Mr. Knight to refer to the City Manager for discussion with the Council in
conference, was adopted, without dissenting vote.

67-21 - The following ietter from the Director of Planning was read:
"At its regular monthly meeting on January 10, 1967, the City Planning Commission acted
upon the following two rezoning petitions:

Z-67-5 Petition of Norris Construction Company, Vernon F. Martin, and Nation Investors
CorDoration-'-~'~ttorney Donald C. Kilgore to rezone property described as follows: Beginning at the
southwest corner of Deep Creek Boulevard and Elliott Avenue; thence southeast along th~ west
right-of-way line of Deep Creek Boulevard approximately 150 feet; ~hence southwest along a side lot
line approximately 156 feet to a point; thence southeast approximately 93 feet to a rear lot line;
thence west along said line aperoximately 111 feet to a point; thence south approximately 27 feet;
thence west aonroximately 150 ~eet to the east right-of-way line of Beacon Read; thence northwest
alon~ said li~ approximately 138 feet to the son~h right-of-way line of Elliott Avenue; thence
northeast along said right-of-way line approximately 415 feet to the point of origin; from
Residential R-60 to Commercial C-1.
The Commission, once again, unanimously resolved to recommend disapproval of this
application on grounds that sufficient land for local business purposes is already zoned to serve
this neighborhood and that any such enlargement of commercial would only serve to the detriment of
the entire area.
Z-67-4 Petition of Taylor Brothers Builders, Inc. by Agent Carl E. Bowers to rezone
property d~ed as follows: Beginning at the southwest corner of Airline Boulevard and Carolina
Avenue; thence southwest along the west right-of-way line of Airline Boulevard approximately 1S1 feet
to a side lot line; thence northwest along said line ~pproximately 175 feet to a rear lot line; thence
northeaBt along said line approximately 40 feet to the south right-of-way line of Carolina Avenue;
thence northeast along said right-of-way line approximately 178 feet to the point of-origin; from
Residential R-75 to Commercial C-2.
TBe Planning Commission unanimously resolved to recommend disapproval of this application
on grounds that there is not demonstrated need for commercial encroachment upon this attractive half
mile of residentially-developed highway and for the reason that these develooers could utilize the
property satisfactorily by orienting new residential constr~c~ic~ to the lov~ly.~side street involved."

Motion of Mr. Eastes to refer to the City Clerk for advertising was adopted, without dissenting

vote,

67~2 - Motion of Mr. Johnson that the Planning Commission make a complete study of all
signs, especially commercial, as to the zoning categories and size of signs, and reoort back with
a recommendation, was adopted, withoutZdissenting vote.

On motion adjourned.

APPROVED

President

Ci.ty Clerk
