BUSINESS-

6~-20 - The following letter from Gloria T. Kittrell, AFGE Lodge Representative, Fifth Coast
Guard District, was read:
"If you~recall, when the Federal Building was in the planning stages, the City of Portsmouth,
in order to keep business downtown promised ample '~ff Street Parking" for the.federal building employees.
They eredted signs posting the property on Water Street, immediately in back of and off to the
left of'the Federil Building facing the river for Coast Guard employees and Postal employees etc.
Now we are told they will resurface the area and put in parking meters, some .25~ a day and
some .10~.
There are approximately 2S0 people, posslbly more, driving to work each day in the Federal
Building. If meters are put on the lots on Water Street that means S5.00 - $6.00 a month ~
that will have to co~e out of the pockets of each one driving to have space to park, plus t~nnel
fare for ones living ~n N~rfolk and comanuting daily.
