May 23, 1967 <br /> <br /> 67-155 - The following letter from the City Clerk was read: <br /> "The terms of office of the following members of the Board of Electrical Examiners have <br />expired: <br /> Sherman Askew <br /> D. O. Hawkins <br /> B. C. Moring" <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Barnes to go into the election of members to the Board of Electrical Examiners <br />was adopted. <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Knight the following were elected to the Board, for the following snecified terms: <br /> Leroy Green for a term expiring 3/1/68 <br /> Sherman Askew for a term expiring 5/1/69 <br /> D. O. Hawkins for a term expiring 5/1/70 <br /> B. C. Moring for a term expiring 3/1/71 <br /> B. S. Trant <br /> <br /> 67-154 - The following letter from the Portsmouth Coast Guard ~seum ~as read: <br /> '%t the present time the Board of Directors of Portsmouth Coast Guard Museum, Inc. consists <br />of 9 persons under the charter issued by the State Corpqration Commission. Due to the amount of work <br />involved in operating this Museum and the scope thereof, the present Board of Directors feels that <br />there should be additional members on the Board so that more use of committees can be employed <br />and that the meetings of the Board of Directors will not have to be so frequent and of such lengZh. <br /> Our meetings under the charter are scheduled monthly but they have been frequently held <br />on a weekly basis and at the present time are on a semi-monthly basis, t~e are therefore requesting <br />that the charter be amended to increase the membership of the Board of Directors from 9 to 15 members. <br /> We would appreciate favorable action in this regard." <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Barnes, referred to a .conference. <br /> <br /> 67-155 - The following letter from John T. Nix was read: <br /> "I herewith submit my resignation as a member of the Portsmouth Port and Industrial <br />Commission effective as soon as it can be acted upon. <br /> I wish ~o tRke this opportunity to thank each of you for the complete cooperation extended <br />the other Commissioners and mys¢ll over the past and to say that it has been an honor and a pleasure <br />to serve you as one of your Commissioners these many years." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. King that <br />a resolution of appreciation <br />without dissenting vote, <br /> <br />the resignation be accepted with regret that the City Attorney prepare <br />for Mr. Nix's services with the Portsmouth Port Commission, was adopted, <br /> <br /> 67-156 - On motion of Mr. Smith, rules were suspended to hear ~4r. Ben Haddon, Chairman of Portsmouth - <br />Dunedin Civic Understanding Commission. Mr. Haddon expressed his app~reciation and that of the Junior <br />~oman's Club for the City's cooperation in ~he construction of the Fri~ndship Zoo. The Council expressed <br />gratitude to the Junior ~oman's Club for undertaking this project. <br /> <br /> 67-157 - The following letter from Miss Kathy Oliver, "Miss Portsmouth" was read: <br /> "Thank you so much for inviting me to the Council meeting. I 'want to again express my <br />appreciation for being recogl3ized as the official City Hostess. f intend to represent the City <br />with dignity and hope that you and the Council members will call on me for any service I might render." <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Knight, the letter was received as information, and the Clerk was requested to <br />acknowledge same. <br /> <br /> 67-158 - The following letter from ~he Council of Parent Teachers Association was read, and on <br />motion of Mr. Johnson, received as informmtion: <br /> "The Council wished to express their deepest thanks for the use of the Council Chambers for <br />our Council Meetings of this past year. <br /> It is comforting to know that the city is interested in the small matters that concern our <br />educational program." <br /> <br /> 67-159 - Motion of Mr. Johnson that a study be made of the reprinting of the zoning code, and that <br />it be prepared in loose-leaf form, was adopted, without disseiting vote. <br /> <br /> 67-160 - Motion of Mr. Johnson that an attorney from the City Attorney's office be present at all <br />meetings of Planning Commission, for legal advice, was referred to a conference for study, without <br />dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> 67-161 - Motion of Mr. Johnson that the name of the Recreation AdVisory Board be changed to <br />'Recreation Commission' was referred to a conference, without disse~ing vote. <br /> <br />On motion adjourned. <br /> <br />APPROVED - <br /> <br />President <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
