September 12, 1967 <br /> <br />67-250 - The following ordinance, approved on first reading at alst meeting, was taken up and read: <br /> <br />',AN ORDINANCE TO CLOSE PORTIONS OF CLIFFORD STREET, PEARL STREET, CROSS STREET, DAY STREET, PRENTIS <br />AYENUE, CHESTNUT STP~ET, COLUMBIA STREET, AND B'~RT STREET, LOCATED IN WEAVER REDEVELOPMENT PROJECT, <br />VA. R-40." <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Johnson, the ordinance was adopted, and by the following vote: <br /> ~ves: Smith, Barnes, Eastes, Johnson, King, Fmight <br /> Nays: None <br /> <br />-NEW BUSINESS- <br /> <br /> 67-268 - The following 'better from the Rollingwood Civic Club, Mrs. Elsie HudginS,,Acting <br />Secretary, was read: <br /> <br /> "The Rollingwood Civic Club request permission to speak on the floor regarding a situation that <br /> exists in our conununity." <br /> <br /> ? No one was present to speak~ On motion d~ferred until next meeting of Council. <br />/ 67-269 - "The School Board respectfully requests the City Council to appropriate $27,008.00, <br /> the estimated amount required to inst&~l fire alarm systems in the following schools: <br /> Truxton E~ementary School <br /> Harry Hunt ~unior High School <br /> I. C. Norc~m High School <br /> Academy Park Elementary School <br /> James Hurst Hlementary School <br /> Thomas Jefferson Elementary School <br /> Green Street Elementary School" <br /> <br />Motion of Mr. Barnes to refer to a conference, was adopted, without dissenting vote. <br /> <br />67=2~0 - The following letter from the City Clerk was read: <br /> <br /> "This is to notify you that the term of office of W. E, Kube, a member of the Portsmouth Supplemental <br />Retirement Board, will expire on September $0, 1967." <br /> <br />Motion of Mr. Eastes to refer to a conference was adopted, without dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> 67-271 - The following letter from J. Brewer Moore, Director of Planning, was read: <br /> <br /> "At its regular monthly meeting on September 5, 1967, the Commission resolved to recommend approval of <br />the site plan for a group housing project in the block bounded by Lincoln, L]lestnut, Randolph and <br />Laurel Streets. <br /> All provisions of the Zoning Ordinance have been met and a s~ti~factory garden apartment design <br />submitted. Recreational space, both under cover and outdoors, has been provided. It is <br />understood that the developer, and owners, will provide for maintenance of the internal <br />driveway network for canvenience of tenants, visitors and public safety vehicles. <br /> The approved site plan it titled ,Apartment Development for Marcel Builders" with Planning <br />Co~ission reference marked thereon." <br /> <br /> Mo~ion of Mr. Barnes to approve the site plan as recommended by the planning Commission, was <br />adopted, without dissenting vote. <br /> <br />67-272 - The following letter from the Director 6f Planning was read: <br /> <br /> "At its regular monthly meeting on September 5, 1967, the city Planning Commission resolved <br />to declare surplus and recommend disposal of.the following tract of municipal property (as indicated <br />on the "Plat Showing Parcel A, Map of Cradock, Portsmouth, Virginia"}: <br /> Beginning at the northwest corner of Alton Parkway and Morris Street; thence north along Morris <br />Street 258~86 feet; thence west along a side lot line 206.51 feet to a pin; thence south along a <br />side lot line 111.74 feet to a point in the northern right-df-way line of Alton Parkway; and thence <br />east along the north line of Alton Parkway ~o the point of beginning." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Knight to concur in the Planning COmmissiOn's recommendation, was adopted, without <br />dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> 67-273 - The following letter from the Director of Planning was read: <br /> <br /> "At its regular monthly meeting on S~ptember 5, 1967, the City Planning Commission reviewed your <br />request for special study of street ~losure petiZions where access to navigable wateF or swampland is <br />involved. <br /> It was unanimously resolved that henceforth all such petitions will be held over for inclusion among <br />items being ~dvertised for public hearing and will be posted in like manner. <br /> The general public will be better acquainted with a~l such requests and thus able to provide <br />opinions on appropriate action." <br /> <br />Motion of Mr. Barnes to receive as information was adopted, without dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> 67-274 - The following letter from the Elizabe~h:::~ianor Area Garden Club, Mrs. Marianna Stephens, <br />president, was read: <br /> <br /> <br />
