July 28:1998 <br /> <br /> At a Called Meeting o~' the City Council on Tuesday, July 28, 1998, there <br />were present: <br /> <br />Mayo[James W. Holley III, Vice Mayor Bernard D. Griffin, Sr., *P. Ward Robinett, <br />Jr., J. Thomas Benn Ill, William E. Moody, Jr., Charles B. Whitehurst, Sr., <br />Deputy City Manager H. Timothy Little, City Attorney G. Timothy Oksman. <br /> <br />98-171 The following call for the meeting was read: <br /> <br /> "Please attend a Called Meeting of the City Council to be held in the City <br />Council Chamber, 801 Crawford Street, 6th floor, 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 28, <br />1998, for the purpose of a Public Work SesSion. <br /> <br /> In addition, you may consider a motion to go into an Executive Session. <br /> By order of the Mayor? <br /> <br />98-172 The following items were discussed in Public Work Session: <br /> <br /> 1. GrantS Process <br /> 2. VML Presentation <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr, Robinett, a~d seconded by Mr. Griffin, to go into Executive <br />Session purSUant to proVisions of Section 2.1-344 of the Code of Virginia, for <br />discussion or consideration of tlte following: <br /> <br /> 1. Acquisition or use iof real property for a public purpose in <br /> connection with possible creation of an empowerment zone, as <br /> permitted by Subsecti~m (A)(3). <br /> <br />2. Consultation of legal counsel pertaining to a~:tual, pending litigation <br /> in united States DiStrict Court, as permitted by Subsection {A)(7). <br /> <br />Motion was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Robinett, and seconded by Mr. Griffin, pursuant to Section <br />2.1-344.1 of the Code of Virginia certifying that to the best of the Council <br />Member's knowledge during the immediately preceding Executive Session of <br />the City Council: <br /> <br />Only public business matters lawfully exempted from open meeting <br />requirements by the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, and <br /> <br />Only such public business matters as were identified in the motion <br />by which the Executive Session was convened, were heard, <br />discussed or considered in the meeting by the City Council. <br /> <br />The motion was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br />On motion, meeting adjourned. <br /> <br />Minutes prepared by: <br /> <br />Debbie K.
