I wish to advise City Council that I cannot perform the duties of this office, that the Statutes of
Virginia require, with the funds Comncil has indicatedit is going to provide."
Commerce Commission for permission to abandon trackage rights for operation of its trains between Binners
Point (Norfolk-Portsmouth), Va., and Selma, N. C., over the line of the Seaboard Coast Line Railroad. The
right to seek abandonment had been granted Southern when the ICC approved the merger of the Seaboard and
Atlantic Coast Line ~ailroads.
dustrial and port territory and, especially, from the fast-moving developments in the field of moving much
overseas traffic in containers. Intermodal handling of freight in containers," he said, "has great promise
for the future. ;us the leading exponent of containerixation of freight hauling among American railroads,
Southern welcomes the opportunity to lend its assistance in the further development of ship-to-rail and rail-
