Mr. Holley nominated H. N~ Jobmson, Jr., to succeed himself for a term expiring January 1, 1972. <br /> <br /> Vote being taken, Mr. Johnson was unanimously elected a member of the Planning Commission for the term <br />specified. <br /> <br /> 68-2S7 - The following letter from Louis V. Lehtonen, Director International Exchange Program was read: <br /> <br /> "The visit of His Pforship Russell Jobar Calvert, Mayor of Dunedin, New Zealand, to the United States as <br />an official guest of the Government, can Only be considered a complete success. <br /> <br /> On behalfof the International Exchange Program and the United States Department of State I wish to take. <br />this oppprtunity of acknowledging the role of the C~ty of portsmouth in the a~rangements. As the Sister City <br />of Dunedin your communityprovided that unequalled spirit and display of hospitality and warmth whic~ is the <br />very essence of America. <br /> <br /> The Cultural Exchange Program is often categorized as an exercise in American foreign policy, - this <br />description becomes meaningful and viable only when left in the hands of communities such as Portsmouth. <br /> <br /> Your city is to be thanked for this splendid show of "Hands across the Oceans." Please convey our <br />appreciation to all those individuals, Hayor Smith, Mr. Haddon, and others who did so very much!" <br /> <br /> Motion of Hr. King that the letter be received as information and that the Clerk acknowledge same, was <br />adopted, without dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> 68-2S8 - Motion of Mr. Johnson that the Planning Commission be requested to furnish information on the <br />status of commercial signs,::was adopted, without dissenting vote. <br /> <br />On motinn adjour~md. <br /> <br />APPROVED <br /> <br /> dent <br /> <br />City Clerk~ <br /> <br /> <br />
