July 25, 1968 <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Smith that the resignation be accepted with regret and that the Clerk write Mr. Crawford, <br />expressing t~e~.~mppreciation of the Council for his services on the Planning Cemmis$ion, was adopted, without <br />dissenting ¥ote. <br /> <br /> 68-2S5 - The following letter from Vernon E. Wimbroughwas read: <br /> <br /> "It is with deep regret that I feel compelled to'tender my resignation to the Portsmouth School Board. <br />I believe there might be a slight conflict of interest and I most Certainly ~¢ould not want to embarrass either <br />the City or the School Board because of any charges of this nature. The appointment on the School Board that <br />you and other members of the council so graciously gave me was appreciated by me more than I shall ever be <br />able to convey to you by letter. Let me say that those School Board Members that I have had the pleasure to <br />serve with are a dedicated and conscientious group and my association with them will n~¢er be forgotten. <br /> Again let me thank you and the other members of the Council, and feel free to call on me at any time <br />that you might think that I can be of service to you or our City and you know that I will do the same." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Turner that it he, accepted with regrets and that the Clerk write Mr. Wimbrough a letter <br />of appreciation, was adopted, without dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> 68-256 - Motion of Mr. Smith to go into the election of a member to the Parking Authority, to fill the <br />unexpired term of Mr. James W. Holley, resigned, was adopted. <br /> <br /> Mr. Holley nominated Rev. Ira S. Waters. (Irving) <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. King, nominations were closed. <br /> <br /> Vote being taken, Mr. Waters was unanimously elected to lhe Parking Authority, for a term expiring <br />May 1, 1969. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Smith to go into the election of a member to the Naval Shipyard Museum Board, was adopted. <br /> Mr. King nominated Nicholas J. Brown, to fill the Vacancy caused by the resignation of Dr. James Parrish. <br /> On motion of Mr. Johnson, nominations were closed. <br /> <br /> Vote being taken, Mr. Brown was unanimously elected to the Naval Sliipyard Musemm Board, for a term <br /> expiring May 1, 1971. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. King to go into the election of a member to the Portsmouth Coast Guard Museum Board was <br /> adopted. <br /> <br /> Mr. Smith nominated Robert L. Holley. <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. James W. Molley nominations were closed. <br /> <br /> Vote being taken, Robert L. Holley was unanimously elected to the Portsmouth Coast Guard Museum Board. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Bastes to go into the election of a member to the Portsmouth Redevelopment iamd Rousing <br /> Authority to fill the unexpired term of C. P. Snodgrass, was adopted. <br /> <br /> Mr. Smith nominated Vernon E. Wimbrough. <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. King nominations were closed. <br /> <br /> Vote being taken, Mr. Wimbrough was unanimously elected to the Portsmouth Redevelopment and~ousing <br /> Authority for a term expiring September 11, 1969. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Johnson to go into ~he election of four members to the Portsmouth School Board, was <br /> adopted. <br /> <br /> Mr. Bastes nominated Robert W. Wentz, Jr., to fill the unexpired term of Vernon B. Wimbrough. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Smith to close nominations was adopted. <br /> <br /> Vote being taken, Mr, Wentz was unanimously elected a member of the Portsmouth School Board, for a term <br /> expiring June $0, 1970. <br /> <br /> Mr. Turner nominated Rev. M. Edward Whitaker, Mrs. Hilda Watson, and Dr, Robert W. Adams, for three <br /> year-:terms, expiring June 50, 1971. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Johnson to close nominations was adopted. <br /> <br /> Vote being taken, Mr. ~9~itaker, Mrs. Watson and Dr. Adams were unanimously elected members of the <br /> School Board, for the terms specified. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Smith to go into the election of member to the Planning Commission was adopted. <br /> <br /> Mr. Johmson nominated Raymond B. Smith, to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Clinton O. <br /> Crawford. <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Smith, nominations were closed. <br /> <br /> Vote being taken, Mr. Smith was unanimously elected a member of the Planning Commission, for a term <br /> expiring January 1, 1972. <br /> <br /> <br />
