August 13, 1968 <br /> <br /> 68-327 - Motion of Mr. Eastes to go into the election of a member to the Patrick Henry Hospital Board <br />was adopted. <br /> <br /> Mr. Johnson nominated Hugh Chedester to fill the facancy created by the resignation of Mayor Barnes. <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. King, nominations were closed. <br /> <br /> Vote being taken, Mr. Chedester was unanimously elected a member of the Patrick Henry Hospital Board. <br /> <br /> 68-327 - Motion of Mr. King to go into the election of a member to the 8ampton Roads Area-Wide Co-op <br />Committee was adopted. <br /> <br /> Mr. King nominated George D. Eastes to fill the vacancy created by the e~e~tio~of,~Mr, cBarne$<to Mayor. <br /> On motion of Mr. Johnson, nominations were closed. <br /> <br /> Vote being taken, Mr. Eastes was unanimously elected a m~mb~r of the Hampton Roads Area-~de Ce-operation <br />Committee. <br /> <br />- N~ BUSINESS - <br /> <br />68-266 - The following letter from the Director of Planning, J. Brewer Moore, was read: <br /> <br /> "At its regular monthly meeting on August 6, 1968, the Planning Commission received a communication from <br />from the City Clerk noting that City Council had scheduled a joint public hearing on Zoning Ordinance amend- <br />ment for the evening of August lith. <br /> <br /> Unfortunately, the Planning Commission finds it necessary to advise you that on such short notice during <br />this height of vacation season it will be impossible to obtaina quorum. <br /> <br /> The Planning Commission trusts that you wull see fit to adjourn this hearing to a later date at which <br />time our members can be present t~/express themselves on a matter of importance to the well being of all <br />residential neighborhoods." <br /> <br />Motion of Mr. Johnson to receive as information. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Johnson to refer to the Planning Commission for consideration and recommendation to the <br />Council. <br /> <br /> 68-267 - T~e following letter from the Director of Planning, J. Brewer Moore, was read: <br /> <br /> "At its regular monthly meeting on August 6, !968, the City Planning Commission resolved to recommeRd <br />adoption of the Capital Improvement Budget, 1968-69'- 1972-75 as presented in document form by City Manager <br />A. P. Johnson, Jr. <br /> <br /> Now that annexation is behind us, you may be certain that this agency will devote its energies to per- <br />fecting the process of orderly long-range capital budgeting on a regular program basis." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Smith that a public hearing Be held on the Capital Improvement Budget on September 10, 1968, <br />was adopted, without dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> 68-268 - The following letter from the Chairman of the Citizens Advisory Committee, R. A. Craig, Jr., <br />was rend: <br /> <br /> "At the August 5, 1968 meeting of the Citizens Advisory Committee, the matter of the Hattonsville Renewal <br />Project was discussed. Many citizens have raised questions of the Citizens Advisory Committee pertaining to <br />this project which we have attempted te answer. <br /> <br /> It is felt, hOwever, that there are stili many questions pertaining to the exact Status of this project. <br />It is, therefore, requested that the City Council forward a letter explaining the status of the proposed pro- <br />ject through the spokesman of the Hatton~ville area residents. ' <br /> <br /> It was felt in as much as the Citizens Advisory Committee is an advisory committee that COuncil should take <br />this action." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Eastes to receive as informition and thnt the residents in Hattonsville area be advised <br />thnt the City doe§ not have plans to carry this project through, with a reminder that the area im zoned <br />industrial, was adopted, without dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> 68-269 - The following letter from R. A. Craig, Jr., Chairman, Citizens Advisory Committee, was read: <br /> <br /> "At the regular meeting of the Citizens Advisory Committee held on August 5, 1968, the following <br />Resolution was pnssed and was to be forwarded to City Council. <br /> <br /> BE IT ILESOLVHD that the Citizens Advisory Committee does hereby approve and whole heartily endorse a <br />preliminary Southside Urban Renewal Plan as presented at its regular August meeting of the Citizens Adiisory <br />Committee." <br /> <br />Motion of Mr. Johnson to receive as information was adopted. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr, Smith to acknowledge the letter and thank the Citizens Advisory-Committee for its support <br />of the Southside Urban Renewal Plan wasadopted, without dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> <br />
