~e~tember 10. }968 <br /> <br /> W~. are not now nor have we ever, been in favor of free school bus service, and establishing a business in <br />competition with private bus operations franchised in the C~ty~ Moweve~ since you have already gone in the <br />bus business this is academic. We realize it has been said that not enough buses cuuld be procured to pro- <br />vide this service to the entire City. ~e City of Portsmouth can provide the bus tickets for use on the <br />Community Buses which is used by the students who live in' the old City. <br /> <br /> We are of the opinion that no Court would uphold s~ch a system as we now have. It seems to us that <br />Municipal services must be the same to all citizens regardless of where they live. Me would hope that equal <br />services ~ould be provided, ie, buses or tickets, without having to pursue litigation. The service that you <br />provide free to one cost another over fifty dollars a year." <br /> <br />Motion of Mr. Johnson to receive as information was adopted, without dissenting vote. <br /> <br />Motion of Mr. Eastes that aceopy of Mr. ~hitehead's letter be sent to the School Board, was adopted, without <br />dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> 68-297 - Motion of Mr. Molley to go into the election of members to the Tidewater Area Stadium Commission <br />was adopted. <br /> <br />Mr. Holley nominated Herbert Bangel and Kubre¥ SWeet, St, <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Johnson, nominations were closed. <br /> <br /> Vote being taken, Mr. Bangel and Mr. Sweet were unanimously elected members of the Tidewater Area Stadium <br />Commission. <br /> <br /> 68-297 - Motion of Mr. Johnson to go into the election of a member to the Portsmouth Redevelopment and <br />Housing Authority was adopted. <br /> <br /> Mr. King nominated Leo V. Schocklin to succeed himself on the Author~t. for a term of four years, expiring <br />September 11, 1972. <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Johnson, nominations were closed. <br /> <br /> Vote being taken, Mr. Schocklin was unanimously elected a me~ber of the Portsmouth Redevelopment and <br />Housing Authority for the term indicated, <br /> <br /> 68-297 - Motion of Mr. Eastes to go into the election of a member to the Portsmouth Tax Study Commission <br />was adopted. <br /> <br />Mr. Job~nson nominated George F. Davis. <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. King, nominations were closed. <br /> <br />Vote being taken, Mr. Davis was unanimously elected a member of the Portsmouth Tax Study Commission. <br /> <br /> 68-297 - Motion of Mr. Holley to go into the election of a member to the Portsmouth Coast Guard Lightship <br />Museum Boar~waS~dopted. <br /> <br />Mr. Turner nominated Bernard Levin, 155 Grayson Street. <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Johnson, nominations were closed. <br /> <br /> Vote being taken, Mr. Levin was unanimously elected a member of the Portsmouth Coast Guard Lightship <br />Museum Board, to fill the unexpired term of Rudy Costner, resigned, which term ex~ires January. 51, 1971. <br /> <br /> 68-297 - Motion of Mr. Johnson to go into the election of members to the Portsmouth Revolutionary <br />Bi-Centennial Committee was adopted. <br /> <br />Mr. Eastes nominated the following: <br /> <br />All J. Alford <br /> <br />Motion of Mr. King to close nominations was adopted. <br /> <br /> Vote being taken, those nominated were unanimously elected members of the Portsmouth Revolutionary <br />Bi-Centennial Committee. <br /> <br /> 68-297 - Motion of Mr. Eastes to go into the election of a member to the Board of Electrical Examiners mas <br />adopted. <br /> <br />Mr. Johnson nominated Leroy P. Green to succeed himself. <br /> <br />Motion of Mr. King to close nomination~ was adopted. <br /> <br /> Vote being taken, Mr. G~een was e~ected to the Board of Electrical Examiners, representing the Virginia <br />Electric ~ Power Company. <br /> <br /> <br />
