Magann, the low bidder, was <br />adopted, without dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Turner to award the contract for cleaning and painting to gurgess Brothers, the low bidder, <br />was adopted, without dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> 69-14 - "A meeting was held last night between the members of the Hampton Roads District Sanitation <br />Commission and the City Council. Discussion was held pertainfalg to future planning for the expansion of the <br />sewage facilities in the mr~a~cquired by the Oity in January, 1968, and areas of Cbesap~ake and Nansemond <br />County adjacent thereto. <br /> <br /> It was resolved that these problems should be handled by the technical and legal representatives and <br />recommendations be submitted to the two bodies. <br /> <br /> I recommend that I be authorized to have the City's engineers and lawyers discuss these matters with <br />representatives of H.R.S.D. for a report to be submitted to the City Council.' <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Smith to concur in the recommendation of the City Manager was adopted, without dissenting <br />vote, <br /> <br />- UNFINISHED BUSINESS - <br /> <br />68-434 - The following ordinance approved on first reading at last meet~'ng, was taken up and read: <br />"~N ORDINANCE TO CLOSE CROSS STREET ~ND A PORTION OF PglLIPPhNE STREET." <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Turner, the ordinance was adopted, and by the following vote: <br /> <br /> Ayes: Barnes, tlolley, Johnson, King, Smith, Turner <br /> Nays: None <br /> <br />- N~%~ BUSINESS - <br /> <br /> 69-15 - Motion of Mr. Smith ~hat those who had requested to speak in regard to the dog nuisance situation <br />permitted to speak at this tLme, was adopted. <br /> <br />The following spokB: Mr. B. Park Manor. <br /> Mrs. Mary Lou Dixon, Forresthills Dr. <br /> Mrs. Opal Askew, 204 Orleans Drive. <br /> Mrs. Taylor suggested the following change in Article $, Section 5-14 - "I~. shall be unlawful for the <br />owner of any dog to allow such dog on any public street, alley, or square of thf~'~i{y, unless such dog is <br />held on leash by a responsible person. <br /> <br />Said dog is not to be permitted to run at large, at any time." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Johnson to refer to the City Attorney for further study and report back to the Council <br />within thirty days, was adopted, without dissenting vote, <br /> <br />69-16 - The following letter from the Harrison Ward Civic League was read: <br /> <br /> "The Harrison Ward Civic League respectfully requests permission to speak before the City Council at the <br />Public Meeting on Tuesday, January 14, 1969. <br /> <br /> We wish to be heard on a matter of grave urgency relative to citizens of Prentis Park-Brighton-Truxton <br />community. The citizens of this community are gravely concerned about the more tBan 15 burglaries in our <br />communities within the past 15 days. These crimes against the persons and property of our community have been <br />duly ~ported to our police force.~ (Signed by Willie Chambers, President)" <br /> <br /> Mr. Chambers spoke re: vandalism in Harrison Ward. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Johnson to refer to the City Manager for study and report back within thirty days on action <br />taken up to that time, was adopted, without dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> <br />
