<br /> 69-4 - "I submit the attached ordinance and recommend it be ~laced on first reading. This appropriates
<br />$40,000 for the construction of a new Traffic Engineering Signal §hop. This building is to be built at our
<br />present Public Works complex off Frederick Boulevard.
<br />
<br /> It is essential that we construct this building at this time, as we do not have proper facilities for the
<br />storage of our radio equipment and traffic signal equipment. The space is also needed for the installation of
<br />our automotive radio equipment and repairs to this equipment. At the present tine, the Traffic Engineering
<br />Department is working out of two different locations.
<br />

<br />CONSTRUCTION OF THE TRAFFIC ENGINEERING SIGNAL SHOP."

<br />On motion of Mr. Turner, the contract was awarded t~BMown Contracting Com?oration, the lowest bidder.

<br /> 69-5 - "I submit the.attached ordinance and recommend it be placed on first reading. This closes an
<br />unnamed street on the south side of South Street. It is located adjacent to the Ida Barbour Housing Project
<br />and the Cherry Rug Cleaning establishment's parking lot. This street formerly ran to the City's old incinerator
<br />
<br /> This closing has been approved by the Planning Commission, and a report from the viewers is attached
<br />hereto."

<br />On motion of Mr. Johnson the following ordinance was approved on first reading, without dissenting vote:

<br />"AN ORDINANCE TO CLOSE AN UNNAMED STREET ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF SOUTH STREET."

<br /> 69-6 - "I submit the attached ordinance and recommend it be placed on first reading. This closes certain
<br />naner streets on a plat of the ~ashington Heights subdivision. These streets have never been opened.
<br />
<br />The closing has been approved by the Planning Commission and a report of the viewers is attached hereto."

<br />On motion of Mr. King, the following ordinance was approved on first reading, without dissenting vote:

<br />"AN ORDINANCE FOR CLOSING PORTIONS OF CERTAIN STREETS IN WASHINGTON HEIGHTS."
<br />
<br /> 69-7 - "I submit the attached ordinance and recommend it be placed on first reading. This amends the fire
<br />and police retiremen~ system and the retirement system for other City employees.
<br />
<br /> This amendment would allow firemen and policemen to retire upon completion of twenty-five years of service.
<br />This is not compulsory. They can continue until reaching age 62. Should they continue to work past the twenty-
<br />five years of service, t~eir pension would increase based on their number of years of service past twenty-five.
<br />
<br /> The amendment to the other employees retirement system wuuld change the compulsory retirement age from
<br />seventy to sixty-five. This will be handled over a five year period by decreasing the compulsory retirement age
<br />by one year until the sixty-five year age limit is reached. This means that by the year 1974, anyone reaching
<br />sixty-five years of age would be required to retire.'*
