"A week or two ago Mrs. Rita Marlow, wi~e of Councillor K. J. Marlow returned to New Zealand after her
trip to the Olympic Games at Mexico and her memorable visit to our Sister City, and at a function which I
arranged last week Mrs. Marlow handed over the ~ift received from the women of Portsmouth to the women of
Dunedin.

This was a very happy function and as always with visitors returning from Portsmouth, Mrs. Marlow
brought back glowing reoorts of the wonderful hospitality extended to her. r thought you would be interested
in having a photograph of the function and copy is enclosed. Mr. Dave Forsyth is also sending another copy
to Ben Haddon, Chairman of your Sister City Committee.

It seems a remarkable coincidence that the turn of events in recent months has brought to the Mayoral
office of your Sister Cities men with the same surname, and although I do not know whether this has any
significance, perh~ps it could be regarded as yet eno%her example of the spirit of close affiliation which
exists between our Sister Cities. I expect the next three years to be a busy time for me,, but I am no
stranger to public life and I am looking forward to a fruitful time of service in the interests of the city.
I do extend to you very sincere good wishes for a successful term of office for yoursel~ and who knows,
perhaps some day it may be possible for us to meet personally either in Portsmouth or in Dun~din."
