<br /> "At a conference on ~4arch 17, 1969, the City Planning Commission continued its review of our future
<br />participation in regional planning under the manadatory new State ~aw which confers upon the Division of
<br />State Planning and Community Affairs in the Governor's office responsibilities related to definition of
<br />~Pt~nning Districts'.
<br />
<br /> On Wednesday, April 23, there will be a puhlic hearing in Norfolk ~o consider comoosition of so-called
<br />Planning District Number 20 as proposed o~czally. This would include the nine municioalities of Chesapeake~
<br />Franklin, Isle of Wight County, Nansemond County, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Southampton County, Suffolk, and
<br />Virginia Beach, covering an area of approximately 2,000 square miles of land and involving an estimated pop-
<br />ulation of 772,000 persons. ~ne State law of 1968 anticioates eventual evolution of these 'Planning Districts
<br />into gService Districts'~ which would be units of government providing certain public services, lhus, signi-
<br />ficance must be attached to the 'delineation' step now being pursued.

<br /> The City Planning Co~mission resolved to recommend endorsement of Planning District N~mber 20 as cur-
<br />rently proposed by the Governor's Office, Division or'State Planning and Community Affairs, and the coneept
<br />that there will be established in its formation a new agency with new a~ministrative planning machinery
<br />approved by vote of all municipal members party tI~ereto."

<br /> "At the regular meeting of the Cradock Property Owners' Association on March 4~ 1969 a question arose
<br />as to the enlargement of the Cradock Com~%ulity Center. ~ne ladies of the Cradock Garden Club were informed
<br />by a candidate for City Council that this would be accomplished in 1968. So far no action has been taken.
<br />The space is inadequate and to better serve as a com=munity center~ it should be enlarged.
<br />
<br /> The improvements that have been comoleted in the Cradock Vicinity have added to the area~ The enlarge-
<br />ment of the community center would be another step in the right direction."
