May 27, 1969 <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE TO APPROPRIATE $374,048.20 FROM Tt~ trfI'LITY: FUND 'FOR THE CONSTRUCTION <br />OF A WATER M~IN ALONG ROUTE <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Smith, the ordinance was adopted, and by the following ve~e: <br /> <br />Ayes: Barnes, Eastes, Holley, Johnson, King, Smith, Turner <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />69-159 - The following ordinance, approved on, first reading at last meeting, was taken up and read: <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE TO CHANGE THE NAM~ OF TMAT PORTION OF CARVER CIRCLE LYING NORTH <br />OF INTERSTATE 264 TO CHOATE STREET." <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Turner, the ordinance was adopted, and by the following vote: <br /> <br /> ~em,tiB~rnes, Bastes, Holley, Johnson, King, Smith, Turmmr <br /> Nays: None <br />NEW BUSINESS - <br /> 69-164 - The following letter from Frank H. Keeling was read: <br /> <br /> "Request permission be granted for Mr. Frank H. Keeling and Mrs. Sadie Copeland to appear before the <br /> City Council at its next regular meeting (27 May 1969) for the purpose of discussing the playgrounds in the <br /> Bri~hton area." <br /> <br />Mr. Keeling and Mrs. Copeland spoke, <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Bastes that this request be considered in the study of the five year Capital Improvement <br />budget, was adopted, without dissenting vote. <br /> <br />69-165 - The following letter from the Simonsdale Garden Club was read: <br /> <br /> "We, the members of the Simonsdale Garden Club wish to commend the fine work of Mr. Tom Eaton, Director <br />of Portsmouth Parks and Beautification, for his work and interest in the attractiveness of our city. This <br />definitely includes the clear~ng of neglected property. <br /> <br />It is our wish that budget allowances be continued for this worth-while project." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Smith to receive as information, and that a copy of the letter be forwarded to Mr. Eaton, <br />Supt. of Parks with the recommendation of the Council, was adopted. <br /> <br /> 69-166 - The foll~ving letter from ltrs. GargetZe £. Ne~¢$ome representing the residents of Bradley Avenue, <br />was read: <br /> <br />"Enclose find petition from the residents of Bradley Avenue, re: curbs and gutters. <br /> <br /> Please notify us if a representative or representatives,will be needed at such time same is presented <br />to City Council. <br /> <br />Anything that can be done for this situation will be greatly apprmciated by all residents of this street." <br /> <br /> 'Peti~e~ '~ "~fe,, thenndem$ignedd~k~r~by: pe~ioRt~e City of Portsmouth for the installation of <br />curbs~'-~a--'~-~ters on Bradley Avenue, mltuated just off Portsmouth Boulevard, across the highway from Rolling- <br />wood. <br /> <br /> The majority of residents on this street are homeowners and have been since Bradley Avenue was developed <br />in 1950. In 1960, the section was annexed by the City of Portsmouth, <br /> <br /> ~Ve will gladly send a representative or representatives to your Council meeting when' this petition is <br />submitted." If this is the true nature of the rezoning of this property we feel that this would be an asset <br />to the community and in behalf of the members of our church that live in this community." <br /> <br /> <br />
