,l~une 24. 1969

Capt. Alexander thanked the Council for the increase in salaries for both the Fire and Police Departments.
69-213 - The following letter from the School Board was read:

"The attached letter does not contain good news regardin~ the funding of Public Law 874. If this law is
not funded at the present level, Portsmouth stands to lose approximately $1,000,000 of its impact funds.
Obviously, we can not afford to lose these funds. Senators Byrd and Spong, and Congressman ~itehurst state
that they will fully support Public Law 874. It would be helpful if you could get Mr. Ottavio to prepare a
resolution showing the effect the loss of impact funds would have on Portsmouth city, especially the schools.
Frankly, I am worried."

Motion' of Mrl Jo~nnson that a resolution be forwarded to our Congressman and Senators bringing this
matter to their attention was adopted.

On motion adjourned.

APPROVED -

City Clerk
