Julw 22. 1969 <br /> <br /> Mr. Stewart spoke and presented a copy of a petition for water service, signed by residents ofU~.err~f~elds.' ' <br />He stated that, as President of the Merrifields Civic League, he would write to the City Council, requesting <br />the Council to investigate the feasibility of acquiring the Merrifields water sfstem. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Smith ~hat the matter be referred to the City Manager and that the City Manager be given <br />authority to negotiate for the acquisition of the Merrifields water system, upon receipt of the letter, was <br />adopted, without dissenting vote~ <br /> <br /> 69-246 - The following letter from Mrs. George E. Hatkins, 4930 Briarwood Lane was read: <br /> <br /> "The residents in the area of the forty-nine hundred block of Briarwood Lane, Cavalier Forest, Churchland <br />desire and request the installation of additional street lights on this unusually long dark street. <br /> <br /> Due to the darkness, a condition further enhanced by shrubbery and trees, this situation camses considerab <br />uneasiness to all residents in the area. The dark condition provides considerable comfort to undesirables. <br /> <br /> I personally have had numerous telephone conversations during the past year and a half with your Mr, Trant <br />only to be lead to believe this matter would receive prompt attention. To date additional street lighting has <br />not been installed. <br /> <br /> I sincerely trust that the above request will receive your prompt attention. Thanking you I am," <br /> <br /> The City Manager stated fl~at the entire length of the street must be engineered for lighting; the request <br />will be referred to the Virginia Electric and Power Company as soon as the engineering is completed. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Johnson to refer to the City Manager and that Mrs. Watkins be so advised, was adopted. <br /> <br /> On motion adjourned. <br /> <br />APPROVED <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
