MDtion of Mr. Johnson that rezoning of this site to R-60 be granted and that the following ordinance be <br />approved on first reading, was adopted, and by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Eastes, Johnson, King, Smith <br />Nays: Barnes, Holley, Turner <br /> <br />"ZONING A}.~NDMENT ORDINANCE Z 70-4" <br /> <br /> 70-65 - The following letter from the Director of Planning was read: <br /> <br /> "At its regular monthly meeting on 5 February 1970 the City Planning Commission resolved to recommend <br />a street closure for the portion of MASCOTT STREET described generally as follows: <br /> <br />Triangular-shaped portion between Frederick Boulevard and the front lot line of lots 26-31 <br />of Westgrove subdivision. <br /> <br /> This street area became useless as such when Mascott Street was turned~and reconstructed to meet <br />Frederick Boulevard as a right-angle intersection. If it is legally possible to vacate this portion of Mascot~ <br />Street, the Planning Commission recommends that any portion~ thereof coming into psssession of the City of <br />Portsmouth should be declared surplus mhd disposed of by public sale." ~ <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Eastes, referred to the City Attorney, without dissenting vote. <br /> <br />70-64 - The following letter from Director of Planning was read: <br /> <br /> "At its regular monthly meeting on $ February 1970, the City Planning Commission received, accepted <br />in principle, and resolved to recommend approval as a"group housing project" the site plan for JAYCEE MA~DR <br />APARTS~NTS slated for ¢onstm~ction on the south side of Elliot Avenue just east of DDep Creek Boulevard, <br />subject only to compliance with various cede requirements. YEATFS, JR." <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Eastes, received as information. <br /> <br /> 70-67 - The following letter from representatives of the Virginia League for Planned Parenthood, signed <br />by Nancy Walsh and Hilda Snodgrass was read: <br /> <br /> "We hope you are cognizant of the program that hasbeen conducted in this city by the Virginia League for <br />Planned Parenthood. It has given education and assistance in the field of family planning to indigent and <br />medically-indigent women of child-bearing age. Its staff has worked very closely with the Public Health and <br />Welfare Departments and a local Chapter for Planned Parenthood has be~n organized. <br /> <br /> The Virginia League for Planned Parenthood wishes to continue this program of technical assistance to this <br /> area, however, as is so often the cas.e, money is the essential factor that Can make such a program passible. <br />· More tha~!; likely, you are aware of the Urban Assistance Incentive Fund that is available to localities through <br /> the Division of State PlanninggandCommunity Affairs. The Virginia League is submitting a proposal to that <br /> body requesting funds to carry on its ~ork as outlined, within the geographic areas listed.
