An~ 28. 1970 <br /> <br />S-70-5 Loxley Road, from the southern right-of-way of Victory B~ulevard south <br />to the western right-of-way of Deep Creek Boulevard and the northeastern right- <br />of-way of (Old) Military Road. <br /> <br /> ~e Planning Commission learned of no utilities in the bed of this paper street and recommends its <br />closure." <br /> <br />70-177 - The following letter from tbe Edgefield Garden Club was read: <br /> <br /> "The Edgefield Garden Club would like to inform you that we are behind the Bdgefield Civic Club in their <br />effort to obtain city water for this area. <br /> <br /> As mothers we are concerned about the damage which may occur to our children's teeth. An analysis of <br />of the water shows the floride content is within reasonable health limits, but exceeds the maximum recommended <br />by P.M.A. by 100%. <br /> <br /> We are offering our help to the Civic Club in an~vay!~pMs~ible to get city water in the Edgefield Section.' <br /> <br /> The City Manager stated that he has answered this letter and has advised Mrs. P. H. Holland, President, <br />that everything possible is being done. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Smith that this be made a part of the minutes and that the City Manager so advise the <br />Edgefield Garden Clffb, was adopted, without dissenting vote. <br /> <br />70-178 -The following petition from residents of the 2500 block of Oregon Avenue was read: <br /> <br /> "This is a notice signed by all the residents of the 2300 block, west side of Oregon Avenue, in front <br />of the Church of St. Therese. <br /> <br /> We understand from the newspaper that eventually the school system will be enlarged to accon~n~odate all <br />the Parochial schools in the city, and the Church may be discontinued. It has been a continuing problem on <br />Sundays to get out of some of our driveways, as the parishioners half-block some of &hem. The Merchants & <br />Farmers branch bank on Airline. has given them permission to park in their lot on S~days. <br /> <br /> This is a petition to the City Planners TO NOT PUT 'NO PAP~KING SIGNS' on the West side of the 2300 block <br />of Oregon Avenue directly in front of the LITTLE FLOWER SCHOOL.. Some of the families of this block have two <br />to three autom6biles and as land-owners and property tax payers, we feel that now, and continuing into the <br />future, that we should have, and will have the right to park in front of our domicile. <br /> <br /> Ne wish this to be 'PUT ON RECORD' in case of the future planning decides to make changes on our side of <br />the street. Signed - Earle J. ~tLnderhill and others" <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Turner to receive as information and that the petition be referred to the City Manager <br />was adopted without dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> 70-179 - The following resolutiQn adopted by the Board of Directors of the ~oman's Club of Portsmouth <br />was read: <br /> <br /> ,Be it resolved, that the Portsmouth ~,oman s Club supports the ~cnool Adm~nzstratzon zn their effort <br />to introduce the Health Education course which em]~races safety, Family and Personal Relationships. We believe <br />that if introduced at the earliest possible time this course could train a generation of responsible parents <br />and citizens; thereby arresting tJ]e trend of family disintegration. Education in these principles, through <br />school training, is the only way to raise the quality of ~amily life, the poor quality of which is at the root <br />Of our present-day troubles." <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Holley, received as information. <br /> <br />70-180 - The following letter from Rev. Gordon I~. Slaterbeck was read: <br /> <br /> "I would like permission to speak before city council on April 28 for the purpose of discussing the <br />housing problem in Southside. <br /> <br />Thank you for your courtesy." <br /> <br />Mr. Slaterbeck spoke. <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Holley, privilege of the floor was granted Mrs. Grace Davis, who spoke on ~he conditions <br />in Southside. <br /> that <br /> Motion of Mr. Smith~m recommendation in this matter be included in the next Council Agenda was adopted, <br />without dissenting vete. <br /> <br /> 70-181 - The following letter from Rev. Ralph Reavis, President, Cnurchland Twin Pines C~vic League, <br />was read: <br /> <br /> "A representat%ve of the Churchland-Twin Pines Civic League would like to appear he,pre the city council <br />loday ~ril 28, 1970. The representative will speak to the issue of Adequat~ Recreation Facilities ~or Our <br />Community. This has to do with the condition of the present building in use for activities." <br /> <br />Mr. Reavis spoke reques-ting certain improvements to the existing recreation facility in Twin Pines area. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Eastes to refer to the City Manager with the request that a report be Submitted at the <br />next meeting of Council was adopted, without dissenting vote. <br /> <br />701182 - The following petition was read: <br /> <br /> <br />
