This area does not
lend'itself to a priority assignment relative to the ot~her six areas submitted.

Within this teal SimonsdRle/Century Homes/Shea Fa~rms area, there are three major drainage zones.

The center zone contains ~the heavily traveled City Park Avenue, Simonsda!e Elementary S~nooi and is,
therefore, suggested to be the primary zone of the ~hree Simonsdale drainage areas.

The area between ~ -~
S~a.~ey Road snd Roberts Court is the secondary suggested improvement area because of the
open roadside ditches and the required drainage improvements.

Th~ Century Homes/Shea Farms area has some existing curbs but these curbs create more problems than they
solve mud will eventually have to be replaced.

City Park Avenue Zone - Drainage
Curb, gutter and street improvements

$~91,320
208,760

$300,080

West Simonsdale - Drainage
CuFo, ~utter and street improvements

$131,030
263,160
$394,190

$ 60,800
294,780
$355,580

Centu~z Homes/Shea Farm~ -Drainage
Curb, gutter and street improvements

A review of the Brighton area streets and drainage found the following:

1. Concerning the streets

~e area contains approximately 7.4 miles of streets which are without curbs and gutters. Widths of
right-of-way vary considerably in the subject area. Our cost estimate is based on mgnimum cuFe to
curb width of 27 feet and maximum of S6 fee%, depending on the available right-of-way width.

curbs and gutters and repave the affected streets we estimate a :cost of $543,000.

2. Concerning drainage

Drainage in the area is currently, and only partly, accomplished by the storm drains whimh have been
installed in connection with the in~provement of:

Elm Avenue
Portsmouth Boulevard
George Washington Hig~hway
Effingham Street

The existing drain which runs south from the intersectian of Washington and Lincoln Streets, aldng the
old street car R/W, also drains a part of the area.

Since we presently lack the time and manpower to make a detailed study of all existing conditions, we
are assuming that drainage of ~he area can be accomplished by extension of the storm drains in the
above-mentioned streets.
