I have acceoted the appointment with honor and pride and have done my utmost to car-ri out the <br />program as per the instructions and guidance of the Tow~n Affiliation B3sociation which administers the national <br />proart. <br /> <br /> I have found this appointment a rewarding experience mhd have dedicated all of my available time to en- <br />hancing the program in creating a solid contact with the headJ of state and citizens of our Sister-City. <br /> <br /> Now the time has come for me to step aside and leave the task to someone else who will, I am sure, gain as <br />much joy s~d satisfaction as I have experienced in serving ~ city and my comntry in this capacity. It is a very <br />beautiful and well built structure which will make a beautiful and lasting museum. Please m~-ke every effort <br />in maintaining this old shrine. <br /> <br /> I hope you gentlemen will consider the matter ~nd retain the Old CourthouSe as a shrine whioh it deserves.l, <br /> M~tion of ~4r. Eastes to refer to the file on the disposition of the Court House was adopted, without dis- <br />senting vote. <br /> <br /> 70-224 - The following letter from Clerk of the Hu~ings Court~ submitting abstract of votes cast for <br />members of the City Council on.May 12, .1970, was read: <br /> <br /> "In accordance with Title 24-278 and following sections of the Code of Virginia, 1950, I am enclosing <br />here~i~i%tha copy of the ;~stracts of Votes cast for members of the City Council pf t~e City of Portsmouth~ <br />Virginia, in the Councilmanic General Election held in t~he said City on May 12, 1970. <br /> <br /> It will appear from the Abstract, that Burrell R. Johnson, Isaac W. "Ike" King smd Raymond B.
