<br />At a regular meeting of the City Council held on May 26, 1970 there were present:

<br />Jack P. Barnes, George D. Eastes, James W. Hotley, Burrell R. Johnson, Isaac W. King, R. Irvine Smith,
<br />Raymond Turner, A. P. Johnson, Jr.,.City Manager, mhd M. A. Korb, Jr., City Attorney.
<br />
<br />The meeting was opened: withjprayer by Mr. K!n..
<br />
<br />70-206 - The following hearing on zoning ~langes was held:
<br />
<br />Petition Z 70-8 - Application of Chesport Corporation
<br />
<br />The following letter from Attorney William H. Hodges was read:
<br />
<br /> "The eDove zoning matter is set to come before the City Council (Lots 20 and 21, Oregon Farms Application
<br />of Chesport Corp. to rezone property on Oregon Avenue) on May 26, 1970. I will be out of the country at that
<br />time and would like to request that same be continued until the Council's next meeting. I was involved in a
<br />chancery matter that was being tried when the application was considered by the Planning Commission. At the
<br />last minute, I asked my associate, J~es E. Rinehart, to reoresent the petitioner and I am afraid that he was
<br />not fully advised of the applicant's ownership of the property. It appears that the Planning Commission was
<br />misinformed and since I am familiar with the ow~erhsip, proposed use, etc. I would like to personally handle the
<br />matte~ before the City Council.
<br />
<br /> The only party appearing in opposition was Mrs. E. T. Stokes who resides at 711Roclman Avenue, Portsmouth,
<br />Virginia.
<br />
<br />Your early advices in reply to this request will be very greatly appreciated."

<br />Mrs. E. T. Stokes, Jr. spoke and presented the following petition:
<br />
<br />"We, the undersigned, do hereby express our opposition to ~he rezoning of property described below:
<br />
<br /> Beginning 225 .feet southwest of the southwest corner of Oregon Avenue and Kings Highway; tkence southwest
<br />along Oregon Avenue 150 feet; thence southeast 150 feet; thence northwest 150 feet; ~ence northwest 150 feet
<br />to the point of origin; from Residential R-75 to Commercial C-2. The Commission recommends disapproval.

<br /> Motion of Mr. Smith to defer action until next meeting and that all the petitioners be so notified, was
<br />adopted without dissenting vote.

<br />Petition Z 70-9 - Bpplication of Willim~ L. Ward, by Attorney Donald Kitgore
<br />
<br />Attorney Donald Ki!gore requested a continuance.
<br />
<br /> Motion of Mr. Turner to defer action on the application until next meeting was adopted, without dissenting
<br />vote.

<br />
<br />Attorney Donald Kilgore requested a continuance.
