Motion of Mr. Johnson to concur in the recommendation and that the City Attorney be requested to submit an ordinance providing for the appropriation, at the next meeting of Council was adopted, without dissenting vote. 70-255 - The following letter from Donald H. Sandie, Chairman of the Blue Ribbon Committee on Police- Community Relations was read: p · "The Blue Ribbon Committee on ollce-Community Relations was appointed by City Council on April I4th and asked to report wi~[min sixty (60) days. As of this date, we have held two public hearings and a third is s~heduled at the Wesley Community Center on Monday, June 8, 1970, We have also hadla request to hold a hearing in the Cradock Community and there may be other requests forthcoming. On behalf of the Committee, I ask forian extension of time in order to complete our findings and make prope~ recommendation to council." Motion of Mr. Holley that the time fo~ report be extended for sixty (60) additional dams was adopted, with-! out dissenting vote. ~ 70-256 - The following letter from Geprge ~. Freeland, Vice-President, R. H. Minkley ~ Company was read: "I would request that I be allowed teiappear on the comucil agenda on June 9th, I970, to inform the council about the Atlantic Seaboard Major League, Class A, Softball League. ~e have the only team in this area traveling through several states. We need the support of the City of Portsmouth and t wish to appear before the council to speak on this matter.~ Mr. Freeland was not present.. Motion or.Mr. Holley to defers- actionand that Mr. Freeland be so notified was adopted, without dissenting vote. 70-257 - The following letter from Geneva Stewart, Secretary, Federation of Civic Clubs, was read: ~'At the meeting of the Federation of Civic Clubs May 25, 1970, the question of junk yards and their contribution to pollution was discussed. ~e would like to go on record as supporting you to the fullest extent in this noteworthy project. Portsmouth should be a beautiful city and ~t can be if these ~n~ghtly areas are done away with." Motion of Mr. Turner to receive as information was adopted, without dissenting vote.
