July 28, 1970 <br /> <br />70-529 - The following letter from the School Board was read: <br /> <br /> "At a special meeting on July 23, 1970, the School Board of the City of Portsmouth adopted a resolution <br />requesting the City Eouncil to appropriate $5,188,000 to defray the cost of construction of the proposed <br />high school to be built in the Hedges Manor area." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Johnson to advise the School Board to proceed with the construction of the school was <br />adopted, Without dissenting vote. <br /> <br />70-330 - The following letter from Lester E. SchlitZ:;was read: <br /> <br /> "I wish to tender my resignation as a member of the City Law Library Advisory Board. I am sorry that <br />the press of my law practice, together with my service in the General Assembly, will not permit me to continue <br />as a member on the board. <br /> <br /> I have enjoyed serying on th.~ Law Library Board and appreciate the opportunity given to me by the <br />Council." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Turner to accept the resignation with regret, that a letter be sent to Mr. Schlitz, ex- <br />pressing appreciation for his services and that the question of the vacancy on the board be referred to a <br />conference of Council,. was adopted~without dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> 70-351 - The following resolution was presented, and on motion of Mr. Turner, it was adopted, amd by <br />the following yore: <br /> <br /> ."RESOLUTION CO~ENDING RAYMOND B. SMITH FOR }{IS SERVICE .AS A~MBER OF THE PLANNING CO~{ISSLON <br /> <br /> I~MEREAS, Mr. Raymond B. Smith has served for nearly two Years on the Portsmouth. Planning Commission; <br />and <br /> <br /> }%5{EREAS, this service demanded a great deal of time and effor~ on the par( of Mr. Ray.mend B~ Smith~ <br />in addition to his attendance at regular Planning COmmission meetings; and <br /> <br /> WHSREAS, many important decisions relating to the future progress of the City were made by the Planning <br />Commission during these years of unselfish service by Mr. Raymond. B. Smith, <br /> <br /> THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of th9 City of Portsmouth, Virginia, tha~ the valuable~con- <br />tribution to the progress of the City made by Mr. Raymond B. Smith through his service on the Planning <br />Commissionbe acknowledged with sincere gratitude; and <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that'a copy of this resolution be presented to Mr. Raymond B.
