<br />OF AUTOMOTIVE EQUIPMENT."

<br />motion of Mr. Turner, the following resolution was adopted and by the following vote:

<br />COati, ENDING JAMES A OVERTON FOR HIS SERVICE AS A CO~ISSIONER OF THE REDEVELOPmeNT
<br />AUTHORITY
<br />
<br /> IVHEREAS, James A. Overton has served on the Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing Authority for four
<br />years, including service as Vice-Chairman during his term of office; and
<br />
<br /> ~KMEREAS, this service demanded a great deal of time and effort, involving much personal sacrifice and
<br />inconvenience; and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, the period of his service has seen tremendous advances in the revitalization of downtown
<br />Portsmouth.
<br />
<br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED,.by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that the appreciation
<br />of the citizens of this City be hereby expressed to the said James A. Overton for the valuable service rendered
<br />by him as a cormmissioner of the Portsmouth Rhdevelopment and Housing Authority.
<br />
<br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be spread upon the minutes of the City Council
<br />and that a copy be presented to James A. Ovel~ton as a token of the esteem in whi~h he is held by the citizens
<br />of Portsmouth."

<br />70-458 - On motion of Mr. Holtey the following resolution was adopted and by the following vote:

<br />"A RESOLUTION CO~NDING THE I. C. NORCOM HIGH SCHOOL BAND FOR THEIR PARTICIPATION
<br />IN THE RECENT MISS ~.~RICA BEAUTY PAGEANT PARADE
<br />
<br /> ~EREAS, T/4~ I. C. Norcom High School Band was recently honored by being one of the ~Cfltion's few high
<br />school bands chosen to participate in the most recent Miss America Beauty Pageant Parade, held on September
<br />8, 1970 in Atlantic City, New Jersey; and
<br />
<br />WHEREAS, the I. C. Norcom High School Band performed with the highest distinction in said parade; and
<br />
<br /> %qHEREAS, the I. C. Morcom High School Band during their stay in Atlantic City conducted themselves in
<br />such an exemplary fashion as to merit the esteem and highest regards of their hosts, such esteem being re-
<br />flected in the correspondence of one such host who wrote, "The complete staff here ... want you to know that
<br />this was the nicest and best behaved group we have ever had with us ... I just wish that e~ryone could see
<br />this group, for I am sure that they would be very proud to have young people like these run our country in
<br />the future;" and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, much achievements and exemplary behavimr furnish an extraordinary example for this City's young
<br />people and encourage similar achievements by other Portsmouth youth.
<br />
<br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED b~ the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that the members of
<br />~he I. C. Norcom High School Band be hereby commended on behalf of the citizens of the City for their out-
<br />standing achievements.
<br />
<br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Mr. A. T. Edwards, principal of I. C. Norcom High Schook Fir. Emory L. Fears,
<br />director of the I. C. Norcom High School Band, and the parents of said band members be commended for the
<br />outstanding leadership they have shown the end product of which is evidenced by the aforesaid accomplishments
<br />of the I. C. Norcom High School Band and its members.
<br />
<br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be spread upon the minutes of the Council and that
<br />a copy be presented to Mr. A. T. Edwards, b{r. Emory L. Fears and the I. C. Norcom High School Band."
