<br /> 71-44 - "I submit the attached ordinance and recommend it be placed on first reading.
<br />This appropriates $600,000 for alterations and additions to the water filter plant in Suffolk
<br />Virginia. This covers the contrac% price as well as engineering and inspection costs.
<br />
<br /> This work is to be done on the #2 filter plant and will increase the filter capacity
<br />from six million gallons daily to twelve million gallons daily. Due to the condition of
<br />this filter plant, it has been used only on a limited basis during the past year. When
<br />this work is completed, the Portsmouth water system will have a rated capacity of thirty-
<br />seven million gallons daily.

<br />Bids were received for these improvements on January 28, 1971 as follows:

<br /> On motion of Mr. Irvine Smith the following ordinance was approved on first reading,
<br />andby the following vote:

<br />"AN ORDINANCE TO. APPROPRIATE $600,000.00 FROMTTHE UTILITY FUND FOR THE
<br />CONSTRUCTION OF ALTERATIONS AND ADDITIONS TO THE WATER FILTER PLANT."

<br /> 71-45 "I submit the attached ordinance and recommend it be placed on first reading.
<br />This increases the number of members on the Tax Study Commission from 7 to 9.
<br />
<br /> The members of the Tax Study Commission have requested this increase. It is their desir~
<br />to split up in groups of three and each group take specific areas to study. The increase
<br />of two members will allow the Commission to accomplish this."
<br />
<br /> On motion of Mr. King, the following ordinancewwas approved on first reading by the
<br />following vote:

<br />"AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTIONS 10-128 AND 10-129 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY
<br />OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, 1961, PERTAINING TO MEMBERSHIP OF THE PORTSMOUTH
<br />TAX STUDY COMMISSION.'

<br />
<br /> 71-46 "I submit the attached ordinance and recommend it be placed on first reading.
<br />This closes a portion of Cambridge Avenue north of Hartford Street. This is a paper street
<br />and of no value to the City. The Planning Commission has recommended this closing and a
<br />report of the viewers is attached hereto."
<br />
<br /> On motion of Mr. Raymond Smith the following ordinance was approved on first reading
<br />and by the following vote:

<br />"AN ORDINANCE TO CLOSE A PORTION OF CAMBRIDGE AVENUE."

<br /> 71-47 - "I submit the attached ordinance and recommend it be placed on first reading.
<br />This closes portions of Cutoff Avenue, Jackson Avenue and Laigh Road. These are paper street
<br />located in the Washington Heights section and the Planning Commission has recommended these
<br />closings. There is also attached hereto a copy of the report of the viewers."
