February 9, 197t <br /> <br /> 71-59 - On motion of Mr. Turner, the following ordinance was placed on first reading, and by the follow- <br />ing vote: <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE TO A~ND SECTION 196~0 OM ~HB CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, 1961, TO PPiSHIBIT <br />THE SAL~ OF BEER AND WINE ON SUNDAYS BETWEEN THE HOURS OF 1:00 A.M. ~%ND 6:00 P.M." <br /> <br />Ayes: Holley, Johnson, Raymond Smith, Tultner <br />Nays: King, Irvine Smith, Barnes <br /> <br /> An amendment to the ordinance by Mr. Johnson to change the ordinance to read "1:00 A.M AND 1:00 P.M." <br />was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Holley, Johnson, Raymond Smith, Turner <br />Nays: King, Irvine Smith, Barnes <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Johnson, the following ordinance as amended was approved on first reading and by the <br />following vote: <br /> "~%N ORDINANCE TO AS{END SECTION 19-10 OF THE CODE O~ THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTN, VIRGINIA, 1961, <br /> TO PROHIBIT THE SALE OF BEER AND WINE ON SUNDAYS BETWEEN THE HOURS OF ]300 A.M. Holley, the following note ~f appreciation received from Miss Caroline Gor~t, <br />former City Clerk, to beeentered into the "Council Minutes"~ <br /> <br /> "T~knk you for the lovely 'farewell' dinner, the many kind expressions and the silver tray, which I shall <br />cherish. <br /> <br /> Working with you has been a happy experience. Leaving in such a blaze of glory, I haven't gotten my <br />feet on the ground.
