<br />This provides for a Classifization of Employment and Compensation Plan for all Employees of
<br />the City Government. This consolidates the three present pay plans into one unified plan.
<br />
<br /> This ordinance is to be effective October 1, 1971. It provides for fourteen steps with
<br />a 2-1/2% increase between each step. Under this plan., all employees will receive approxi-
<br />mately a 5% increase October 1, 1971 provided they are not at the end of the range in their
<br />particular PaY classification. The ordin&nce also provides for increases on an annual basis
<br />subject to ~the approval of the City Council. To make this plan effective October~l, it will
<br />cost approximately $304,000."

<br /> On motion of Mr. Raymond Smith, and duly seconded by Mr. JOhnson, the following ordi-
<br />nance was approved on first reading by the following vote:

<br />"AN ORDINANCE FOR RROVIDING FOR THE CLASSIFICATION OF EMPLOYMENT AND COMPENSATION
<br />PLAN FOR EMPLOYEES'OF THE CITY."

<br /> 71-251 - "I submit the attached ordinance and recommend it be placed on first reading.
<br />This creates, a Zoning Ordinance Study Commission and prescribes, the responsibilities and
<br />duties.
<br />
<br /> The Commission will be composed of five membe.rs consisting of the City Attorney, Direc-
<br />tor of Inspections, the Planning Director, and two citizens appointed by the Council, one of
<br />whom shall be an architect and one in the business of developing subdivisions.
<br />
<br /> The Commission shall make a study of the present zoning ordinance and make such recom-
<br />mendations for changes as it deems advisable, the rezommendations to be made on or before
<br />July 1, 1972."
<br />
<br /> On motion of Mr. Irvine Smith and seconded by Mr. Raymond Smith, the following ordinance
<br />was plRced on first reading by the following vote:

<br />"AN ORDINANCE EREATING THE PORTSMOUTH ZONING ORDINANCE STUDY COMMISSION,
<br />PROVIDING FOR THE APPOINTMENT, TERM OF OFFICE, AND FOR THE FILING OF VACANCIES
<br />ON SAID COMMISSION, FOR THE COMPENSATION OF SAID MEMBERS, FOR THE ORGANIZATION
<br />OF SAID CDMMISSION, AND PRESCRIBING THE RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES OF SAID
<br />COMMISSION."

<br />This appropriates $28,000 for the purchase of land for the construction of a new fire station.
<br />
<br /> The ne.w station wi.il be constructed at the intersection of Elm Avenue and Portsmouth
<br />Bculevard. It will replace the present station on Lincoln Street and the one on Des Moines .
<br />Avenue. This is in accord with the City's Capital Improvement Program."

<br /> On motion of Mr. Irvine Smith and seconded by Mr. Raymond Smith, the following ordinance
<br />was approved on first reading by the following vote.
