<br /> 71-359 - The following letter received from M~s. Thelma P. Jones, 909 Dandridge Dr.,
<br />was read:

<br /> "I received your letter August 4, 1971. I do wish to speak to the City Council on
<br />August 10, 1971. I feel this very important to our City. A youth will be with me since
<br />a group of young people have become very concerned in what I am trying to do. I believe
<br />the meeting starts at 7 o'clock, if I have the time wrong please phone me if possible. My
<br />phone no. is 487-9008."

<br /> On motion of Mr. Johnson and secondeJ by Mr. Irvine Smith, the matter to be referred to
<br />Dr. Buttery for his recommendation as to what porcedures can be followed to assist Mrs.
<br />Thelma P. Jones to pursue the proper direction in her seeking assistance to help combat
<br />Sickle Cell Anemia. Further, to have Dr. Buttery report on the number of local cases, was
<br />adopted by the following vote:

<br /> 71-360 - The following let~ter received from Mrs. Mary Denaro, 4525 Glencove Dr., was

<br /> "the citizens of Portsmouth realize that the~is little you can do about th~ Supreme
<br />Court's busing rule. How~ver,I certainly hope you don't intend to break the city in order
<br />to buy buses. There are too many other things that we need to waste money on the foolishness
<br />
<br /> In case you can't think of anything better to spend money on, I'll tell you that we
<br />need a new Churchland bridge, and we are getting tired of hearing about other priorities be-
<br />cause we in Churchland are the ones who pay the taxes that you are spending in the first
<br />place.

<br /> If any money is left over after the bridge you might try spending some on public swim-
<br />ming pools. N'early every weekend someone is drowning in the river.
