Keffer, 2022 Colorado Avenue, <br />was read: <br /> <br /> "The City Council of Portsmouth s~ould'not spend one dime for the <br />children out of their neighborhoods, and if the School Board has money <br />purpose their appropriation should be cut. <br /> <br />busing of school <br />to~spend for this <br /> <br /> The City Council should take a hard look at the next School Board's budget, and cut <br />the budget to reflect the number of school children that are taken out of what used to be a <br />public school." <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Raymond Smith and seconded by. Mr. King, the following resolution was <br />disapproved, and by the following vote: <br /> <br /> "BE IT RESOLVED THAT: <br /> the School Board of the City of Portsmouth hereby request the City Council to appropriat~ <br />to the Board, $S00,000 to purchase 60, 66-passenger-school buses for the purpose of providing~ <br />transportation for all students in accordance with the plan for the operation of schools for <br />the 1971-72 school year as approved by the U. S. District Court, Eastern'District. It is <br />the opinion of the Board that the purchase of these buses is necessary for the following reasons: <br /> <br /> 1. To insure the safe transportation of children going to and from school. <br /> <br />2. To provide transportation for all children, thus not placing an undue hardship on th~ <br /> families who cannot afford public transpor[ation. <br /> <br />3. To alleviate the concern of parents who are not sat~gfied with available transporta- <br /> tion facilities. <br /> <br />4. To Pre¥~n~ the loss of State Funds allocated on the basis of ADA." <br /> <br />Ayes: Holley, Johnson, King, Irvine Smith, Raymond Smith, Turner, Barnes <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. King and-seconded by Mr. Irvine Smith, the following resolution was <br />adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />"BE IT RESOLVED THAT: <br /> <br /> the School Board of the City of Portsmouth request permission from City Council to <br />apply for, receive and expend funds from state and federal agencies not presently budgeted <br />in the 1971-72 school budget." <br /> <br /> , Ayes: Marley, Johnson~ King, Irvine Smith, Raymond Smith, Turner <br /> Hays: Barnes ~ <br /> 71-371 - "I :submit !the :attached ordinau.ce and recommend it be placed on first reading.
