WHEREAS, Council is desirous of protecting the consumer interests
<br />who are telephone subscribers, not only with respect to rates but with
<br />quality of Service received; and
<br />
<br />of its constituents
<br />respect to the
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company of Virginia provides telephone
<br />service in the City of Portsmouth; and has filed for a rate increase which would affect
<br />its subscribers in the City of Portsmouth; and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, telephone service is a necessity for the citizens, businesses, industries
<br />and municipal government in the City of Portsmouth; and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, the City does not wish to formally intervene in this rate proceeding,
<br />but does wish to inform the State Corporation Commission of the interest of its citizens;
<br />and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, the Attorney General of Virginia has already intervened on behalf of
<br />all the subscribsrs of the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company of Virginia, including
<br />the citizens of Portsmouth;
<br />
<br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia,
<br />that the State Corporation Commission is hereby requested to protect the interest of telephon
<br />consumers in the City of Portsmouth and to insure the maintenance of high quality service
<br />at reasonable rates for telephone consumers in the City of Portsmouth.

<br />tion to the Clerk of the State Corporation Commission."
