<br /> WHEREAS, the Cities of Chesapeake, P~rtsmouth and Suffolk and the County of Nansemond
<br />have many common problems that could readily lend themselves to joint effort such as water
<br />and sewer service, education, recreation, and procurement of good~ and services.
<br />
<br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth that:
<br />
<br /> 1. The cities of Ches~eake, Portsmouth and Suffolk and the County
<br />~.c~mm~t~e~:~f ~piesentatives from each locality to be known as the Western Tidewater Com-
<br />munity Council, for the purpose of seeking solutions to problems that are common to the four
<br />localities.
<br />
<br /> 2. Each locality be represented by two members of their respective governing elected
<br />bodies and their chief administrative officer.
<br />
<br /> 3. The Council elect a Chairman, Vice-Chairman and such other officers as it deems
<br />necessary or advisable to the conduct of its business.
<br />
<br /> 4. The Council shall meet monthly on a rotating basis in each of the four member
<br />localities with the first meeting to be held in Portsmouth at 7:00 p.m. on the third Tuesday
<br />of the month, following the adoption af a similar resclution by the governing bodies of
<br />Chesapeake, Suffolk and Nansemond.
<br />
<br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Council of
<br />the City of Chesapeake and Suffolk and the Board of Supervisors of the County of Nansemond
<br />wi~h the request that they adopt similar resolutions and make the appointments called for
<br />herein.'

<br /> On motion of Mr. Johnson and seconded by Mr. Raymond Smith, for adoption of the resolu-
<br />tion with flexibility of allowing modificatians as are necessary with general concensus
<br />of those r~presenting the jurisdictions in question, was carried by the following ~ote:

<br />Nays: Irvine Smith

<br /> 72-27 - On motion of Mr. Turner and seconded by Mr. Raymond Smith to
<br />election to the Portsmouth Redevelopment & Housing Authority, was adopted

<br /> Motion of Mr. King and seconded by Mr. Turner, nominations were closed, and Mr. Fleming
<br />was elected to ~the Portsmouth Redevelp~ment g Housing~ Authority for an unexpired term, expir-

<br /> 72-2S - Mr. Irvine Smith made a motiog seconded by Mr. Turner, that an ordinance or
<br />resolution, whiehe~m ~he City A'ttorney deems proper, be prepared to change the city license
<br />tag from metal to a decal and that this become operative next year, was adopted by the
<br />following vote:
