May 9. 1972 <br /> <br />Ayes: Holley, <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />72-181 The following <br /> <br /> Johnson, King, Irvine Smith, Raymond Smith, Turner, Barnes <br /> <br /> letter from Director of Planning, was read: <br /> <br /> "At its regular monthly meeting on May 2, 1972, the City Planning Commission again took <br />up the matter of a group housing project for Mr. James Bickford, III, for the Churchland West <br />area between Towne Point Road and Kenny Lane, south of land purchased by the Virginia Depart-: <br />merit of Highways for future construction of the Western Freeway. Arehitect Laszio Aranyi <br />has submitted plans showing 196 garden apartment rental dwelling units on a street which ex- <br />tends Kenny Lane eastward to Towne Pont Road and provides a spur to property owned by Stanleyi <br />Friedman and subject of continued rezoning studies. (You will recall that this property <br />owned by Mr. Friedman extends along the Chesapeake City Boundary~in what is generally refer- <br />red to as the "Churchland Corridor".) Subject to very minor site plan modifications, the <br />Planning Commission resolved to recommend approval of the street pattern and revised building! <br />arrangement." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Raymond Smith and seconded by Mr. Irvine Smith to concur with the recom- <br />mendation of the Planning Commission, was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Holley, Johnson, King, Irvine Smith, Raymond Smith, Turner, Barnes <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> 72-182 The following letter received from Mr. Henry L. B~antley, Jr., Secretary, <br />Simonsdale Civic Club, was read: <br /> <br /> "The members of the Simonsdale Civic Club would like to again remind you and the other <br />members of the city council that the Simonsdale Community is anxiously awaiting the start <br />of the installation of curbs and gutters in the area. <br /> <br /> We have been told that the engineering work has been completed and that council has <br />directed the installation to begin this spring. <br /> <br /> We certainly hope that there will be no more delays and that the work will begin immedi- <br />ately and proceed with the greatest possible speed." <br /> <br /> Motion 6f Mr. Raymond <br />to be referred to the City <br />by the following vote: <br /> <br />Smith and seconded by Mr. King, to be received as information and <br />Manager for a Council conference on curbs and gutters, was adopted <br /> <br />Ayes: Holley, Johnson, King, Irvine Smith, Raymond Smith, Turner, Barnes <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> 72-183 - Motion of Mr. Irvine Smith and seconded by Mr. Johnson, that City Manager look <br />into building, northwest corner of Elm Avenue and Leckie Street, as to code enforcement and <br />check the laundromat adjacent about sanitary conditions, was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Holley, Johnson, King, [rvine Smith, Raymond Smith, Turner, Barnes <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> 72-184 Letter addressed to Mr. Kenneth L. Griffith, President, Park View Project Area <br />Committee, from Mr. D. B. Frye, Jr., Executive Director, PRHA, was read.
