<br /> Councilman King offered prayer.
<br />
<br /> Mayor Barnes extended a welcome to all visitors in attendance.
<br />
<br /> Motion of Mr. Raymond Smith and seconded by Mr. Turner, minutes of the
<br />meeting on April 25, 1972, were approved by the following vote:

<br />The following reports from the City Manager were read:
<br />
<br /> 72-171 "I submit the attached ordinance and recommend it be placed on first reading.
<br />This appropriates $16,000 for the cost of engineering services for design of sewer systems
<br />for the Portsmouth Acres and Green Lakes sections of the City.
<br />

<br /> On motion of Mr. King and seconded by Mr. Irvine Smith, the following ordinance was
<br />approved on first reading, and by the following vote:

<br />"AN ORDINANCE TO APPROPRIATE $16,000.00 FROM THE GENERAL CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT
<br />FUND TO PROVIDE FOR ENGINEERING SERVICES PERTAINING TO THE INSTALLATION OF
<br />SEWERS IN GREEN LAKES AND PORTSMOUTH ACRES."

<br /> 72-172 - "I submit the attached ordinance and recommend it be placed on first reading.
<br />This appropriates $47,000 far exterior resurfacing and trim painting of the Municipal Build-
<br />ing, a small addition to be erected on the rear of the building, and repairs to the elevators
<br />in the building.
<br />
<br /> The exterior of the Municipal Building is in a poor state of repair and should be redone
<br />as soon as possible. The addition to the rear of the building will be constructed by erectin
<br />a concrete block wall across the rear approximately seven feet out from the existing main
<br />wall. The roof and old platform are to be reworked and some landscaping done to provide
<br />an attractive and serviceable entrance to the offices of the Commissioner of Revenue. Space
<br />in the addition will be for record storage. Rewiring, recabling (where necessary), replace~
<br />ment of switches and other parts are necessary to assure that the two elevators in the build-
<br />ing are capable of rendering safe and dependable service.
<br />
<br /> Bids were solicited for the exterior resurfacing and trim painting by mailing job detail~
<br />and specifications to six contractors and to the Builders and Contractors Exchange; by several
<br />newspaper articles and legal notice to bidders advertisements. Only one bid was received
<br />at the public bid opening on April 19, 1972. This bid was from E. Caligari & Sons, Inc.
<br />and was for $36,700.
<br />
<br /> Work to be done includes commercial grade sandblasting, trim scraping and painting,
<br />window glazing where needed, cleaning, priming and painting all metal surfaces and an appli-
<br />cation to all masonry of plaxicrete, sealed with catalyze epoxy and covered with an off-
<br />white sand type finish. The City is to be furnished a written five-year guarantee to cover
<br />this application to the masonry. Some repairs to windows, metal work, etc., need to be
<br />accomplished by City forces prior to the contractor starting to work.

<br /> I recommend that a contract be awarded to E. Caligari & Sons, Inc. for the work containe,
<br />in their bid and that the Public Works Department be authorized to proceed with other work
<br />needed on the Municipal Building."

<br /> on motion of Mr. Irvine Smith and seconded by Mr. Raymond Smith, the following ordinance
<br />was approved on first reading and by the following vote:

<br /> "AN ORDINANCE TO APPROPRIATE $47,000.00 FROM THE GENERAL CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT
<br /> FUND TO PROVIDE FOR THE RENOVATION OF THE MUNICIPAL BUILDING."
