The following reports from the City ManageT were read:

72-280 - "I submit the attached ordinance and recommend it be placed on first reading.
This amends the City Code to prohibit anything but flush markers in any new sections
of the City cemeteries (Sections H, J; L and N in Olive Branch). It also amends the Code
pertaining to fees charged for grave openings.

The amendment to the grave opening fees provides for a fee of $90.00 for graves over
four feet in length and $45.00 for graves four feet and under. These rates are to apply
for all ,regular work days. The charge after 12:00 on Saturday, all day Sunday, and holidays
is set at $125.00 for graves over four feet and $65.00 for graves under four feet. The
above charges are substantially in line with charges made by other cemeteries in the surround
lng cities.

The current fees being charged are $50.00 for adult graves and $25.00 for graves four
feet and under. The same rates apply for weekends and holidays.

The use of flush ~arkers in the new sections of Olive Branch is recommended to hold
maintenance costs as low as possible. It is estimated it will cost the City approximately
$4,000 to maintain these areas (Sections H, J, L and N) if tombstones are located on them.
This is based on cutting the area eleven times during the growing season and tombstones
trimmed once.

If flush markers are used, it will cost approximately $1,550 to clean these sections
twenty-two times during the growing season and trim around the markers once a year. Thus,
wmth the flush markers we can increase maintenance 100% and reduce the cos~ 165%.

Regardless of requirements of headstones or flush markers, the cost for maintenance
of the new sections will be in addition to the $94~000 plus already allocated in the 1972-
73 budget for maintenance of the cemeteries. From the perpetual care fund, the City is
receiving approximately $15,000 annually."
