<br />The following ordinance approved at the last meeting, was taken up and read:

<br />"AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, 1961, BY
<br />ADDING TO CHAPTER 25 THEREOF, A NEW ARTICLE V CONSISTING OF SECTIONS 25~29 THROUGH
<br />25-64, PERTAINING TO PARK REGULATIONS."

<br />"AN ORDINANCE TO APPROPRIATE $670,990.00 FROM THE GENERAL CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT
<br />FUND TO PROVIDE FUNDS FOR THE RENOVATION OF THE USO; FOR THE TOWER MALL DRAIN-
<br />AGE PROJECT; FOR THE FINAL CASH PAYMENT ON THE PARK VIEW CONSERVATION PROJECT;
<br />FOR EQUIPMENT FOR THE SLEEPY HOLE GOLF COURSE; FOR EQUIPMENT FOR THE POLICE
<br />COMMUNICATION SYSTEM; FOR FURNISHINGS FOR THE CIVIC CENTER; FOR THE PURCHASE OF
<br />AN ASH DISPOSAL SYSTEM; AND FOR THE PURCHASE OF TEN SCHOOL BUSES."

<br />A MEMORY TYPEWRITER FOR THE COMMONWEALTH ATTORNEY'S OFFICE.'

<br /> 72-340 The following letter received from Mrs. Edward L. Oast, Jr., 4512 Winston Road,
<br />was read:
<br />
<br /> "I wish to express my.personat gratitude to each of you for your approval this week of
<br />the resolution concerning the restoration of the Court House.
<br />
<br /> Raalizing the number of concerns you have and the monitary demands made on the treasury
<br />of the City, makes me par~idularly appreciative of your action.
<br />
<br /> Now we can all begin to~{.g ~ard to formulate ideas for imaginative uses of the Court
<br />House and devise ways to raise the money needed:
<br />
<br /> Ed and I commend all of you, separately and collectively, for the dedication and hard
<br />work you bring to your job. Many of us are truly grateful for your contributions to Portsmout
<br />
<br /> Motion of Mr. Smith and seconded by Mr. Johnson, to be rec6ived as information, was
<br />adopted, and by the following vote:

<br /> 72-352 The following letter received from W. B. Wilkinson, Secretary, Virginia
<br />Alcoholic Beverage Control Board, was read:
<br />
<br /> "At a recent meeting, the Board gave earnest ccnsideration to the resolution of your
<br />council of August 22 requesting this agenc) to extend until 2:00A.M. the hours of sale and
<br />consumption of alcoholic beverages at licensed establishments in your city while daylight
<br />saving time is in effect.
<br />
<br /> Following such consideration the Board instructed me to advise your council through
<br />your office that similar extensions granted this year to the cities of Virginia Beach and
<br />Norfolk were based primarily upon the substantial resort business both municipalities enjoy;
