September 26, 1972 <br /> <br /> (7) At the May 27, 1969 meeting of the City Council, <br />to Petition Z-68-31 was taken: <br /> <br />date. <br /> <br />the following action in regard <br /> <br />'Action on this petition was deferred at a meeting held on December 13, 1968 to this <br /> <br />On motion ~f Mr. Johnson, interested persons were granted the privilege of <br /> <br /> Attorney Louis Brenner spoke stating that R-75 will be satisfactory. <br /> <br /> Herman Williams, Jr. of 222 Mayflower Road, spoke in opposition. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Johnson that the intersection of Hodges Ferry Road and Portsmouth <br />Blvd., northwest corner, be considered by the Planning Commission for continuous zoning to <br />the adjacent southwest corner and that apublic hearing be held to determine the course of <br />action, was lost, there being no second. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Bastes that the Council consider Petition Z-68-31 for approval on first <br />reading, rezoning to R-75. <br /> <br /> Substitute motion of Mr. Johnson to refer back to the Planning Commission for a re- <br />commendation for proper zoning, the recommendation to be submitted within two months, was <br />adopted, without dissenting vo%e.' <br /> <br /> (8) At the July 1, 1969 meeting of the Planning Commission, a public hearing was <br />held in regard to Petition Z-68-31. A Mr. Herman Williams spoke at such hearing. The Plan- <br />ning Commission voted to defer action until its August 5, 1969 meeting. <br /> <br /> (9) On August 5, 1969, the Planning Commission again reviewed Petition No. Z-68-31 <br />and instructed its director to prepare a zoning history of the subject parcels and to forward <br />same with its recommendation, leaving intact its earlier recommended denial of rezoning to the <br />City Council. <br /> <br /> (10) On August 12, 1969, the City Counicl received the Planning Commission's zoning <br />history and recommendation and took the following action: <br /> <br /> 'Motion of Mr. Smith to concur in the recommendation of the Planning Commission to <br />grant C-1 zoning at the intersection of Portsmouth Bouelvard and Hodges Ferry Road, and to <br />place the following ordinance on first reading, was adopted, with one dissenting vote and <br />one abstaining: <br /> <br />the floor.1 <br /> <br />"ZONING AMENDMENT ORDINANCE Z 68-Z1' <br /> <br />(Mr. Johnson abstaining because of his interest in real es~a~eLbusiness and as a <br />resident of adjoining land Mr. Barnes dissenting.)' <br /> <br /> (11) On August 26, 1969, the City Council took the following action with regard to <br />Zoning Petition Z-68-31: <br /> <br />"ZONING AMENDMENT ORDINANCE Z 68-31" <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Holley, the rules were suspended to hear interested persons. <br /> <br />The following spoke: <br /> <br />G. Rose, 6407 Portsmouth Boulevard <br /> <br />The following motion, made by Mr. Smith, was adopted and by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Eastes, Holley, King, Smith <br />Nays: None Johnson abstaining <br /> <br /> 'I move to <br />Amendment Ordinance <br /> <br />~m~nd the motion made at the last meeting of Council <br />Z 68-31 so that the amended motion will read: <br /> <br />to adopt the Zoning <br /> <br /> I move to adopt Zoning Amendment Ordinance Z 68-31 so as to grant C-1 Zoning for <br />the tract of land at the intersection of Portsmouth Boulevard and Hodges Ferry Road.'
