29? <br /> <br />March 19_ 1Q73 <br /> <br />NEW BUSINESS - <br /> <br /> 73-8~ - The following request to speak was receivsd from Mrs. Miriam Haywood, 4008 <br />Windymille Drive: <br /> <br /> "I request permission to address the City Council at their next meeting of March 19, <br />1973, in regards to the lack of recreation facilities in the Churchland area." <br /> <br /> Mrs. Haywood spoke and presented petition; thanked City Council for their help in <br />getting her letter previously submitted into the proper hands for action. <br /> <br /> 75-88 The following request to speak was received from Ms. Marget C. Connelley, <br />Challenge Group Leader, Cadettes of Girl Scout Troop 123: <br /> <br /> "The Cadettes of Girl Scout- Troop 123~;request permission to speak at the City Council <br />meeting to be held on March 19, 1973, on the subject "Recreation Facilities for teenagers in <br />Churchland". <br /> <br /> Miss Pamela Havird, Chris Connelley and Janize Pickrell, Cadettes of Girl Scout Troop <br />123, spoke. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Wentz and secondsd <br />Board, Recreation Commission and City <br />by unanimous vote. <br /> <br />by Mr. Johnson, the matter to be referred to the School <br />Manager, and report back in 30 days, was adopted <br /> <br /> 73-89 - The following letter requesting to speak was received from R~th Parker, <br />1155 Mt. Vernon Avenue: <br /> <br /> "This letter refers to the March 9, 1973 letter requesting to be placed on the agenda <br />of the March 13, 1973 Council meeting. Meanwhile Council has postponed the March 13th meet- <br />ing and a call to the Clerk has advised that the date set for that postponed meeting is <br />March 19th. Whether or not another request letter is necessary is not known. <br /> <br /> Therefore, in order to insure a place on the agenda of the next meeting on whatever <br />date the postponed March 13th meeting has been set for, the undersigned residents of Mount <br />Hermon section of Portsmouth request to be placed on the agenda of that meeting for the pur- <br />pose of having a representative present a petition to Council from the residents of that <br />area, to try to save their homes on Northside of London Boulevard." <br /> <br /> Mr. George R. Walker spoke as representative of the Mt. Hermon section at their request <br />and presented the following petition: <br /> <br /> "Therefors, we petition Council, our duly elected political representatives, to recon- <br />sider the Mt. Hermon project, on the basis of the premises set forth herein, and in view <br />of the current political, social, and economic status of this nation, and to act to abolish <br />and vacate the project in its entirety. <br /> <br /> Or, to direct the Portsmouth Housing Authority Commissioners to re-open the hearings <br />for the purpose of providing the residents of the s~id area with complete, site by site, <br />details of its intent as to which property is to be conserved and which is to be acquired, <br />and the deadline dates established by the authority under which it will g~arantee the com- <br />pletion of such conservation or acquisition. The result of failing to d~ this will keep <br />another group of Portsmouth citizens hanging under the indecisive sword of condemnation, and <br />the force of law, for such an extended period of time as to undermine and damage both their <br />property and their lives beyond resitution. Taylor, 600 Portland <br />Street: <br /> <br /> "I request that my name be placed ontthe agenda for the City Council meeting to be held <br />on Monday, March 19, 1973. <br /> <br /> I wish to speak in regards to homes to be torn down on northside of London Boulevard <br />in the Mt. Hermon area." <br /> <br />Mrs. Taylor spoke. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Smith and seconded by Mr. Johnson, <br />the matter to the Housing Authority, and a report be <br />mou.s vote. <br /> <br />to be received as <br />furnished Council, <br /> <br />information and refer <br />was adopted by unani- <br /> <br /> 73-90 - The following letter received from Mrs. Margaret Warren, Representative of <br />Armistead Forest, was read: <br /> <br /> "We the people of Armistead Forest would like to know exactly when we can expect our <br />sewage to be put in. We do know that bonds and money have been appropriated for this project <br /> <br /> There is an extensive problem of stagnant water standing in our drainage ditches in <br />front of our homes which has a terrible odor and is an excellent breeding place for mosquitoe <br />and snakes. We pay high taxes and feel that we are entitled to better service from our City <br />than what we are receiving at the present time. Curbs and gutters are badly needed in our <br />section of Armistead Forest. <br /> <br /> <br />
