No~embe~ 1~. 1Q73 Motion of Mr. Holley, and seconded by Mr. Johnson, to close nominations, Mrs. Clarke Mrs. Clover and Mrs. Thompson, were re-elected to the Library Board for a term of three years, expiring December 1, 1976, was adopted by unanimous vote. 73-471 Motion of Mr. Smith and seconded by Mr. Johnson, that the Council meet in an executive session prior to the next regularly scheduled Council meeting for th~ purpos of: (1) Discussing appointments to Boards and Commissions. (2) Discussing the disposition of City property. (3) Consultation with Counsel pertaining to legal matters, was adopted by the following vote: Ayes: Early Johnson, King, Smith, Wentz Nays: Holley 73-472 - The following letter received from Ms. Lucille A. Carpenter, Secretary, Federation of Civic Clubs, was read: "The members of th'e Federation of Civic Clubs of the City of Portsmouth voted to go on record as requesting City Council to conduct a study of the present curfew law and adopt an ordinance taking action to correct any inadequacy in the present l~w." Motion of Mr. Johnson and seconded by Mr. Early, to be referred to the City Attorney and advise Ms. Carpenter as to action taken, was adopted by unanimous vote. 73-473 - The following letter received from Mayor Barnes was read: "I hereby offer my resignation through you Portsmouth City Council oN the following bodies Countil: (City Clerk) to the members of the where I have been representing the City SVPDC TVDC TTDC HRAC SWAV PIF STAMPS Finance Commission and any other body I may have missed. I would also like for you to advise Mayor Roy Martin of resignation as a member of the Transportation Committee, U. S. Conference of Mayors. Yon should advise the chairman of each of these bodies and the members of TTDC of which I was Chairman." ' Motion of Mr. Johnson and seconded by Mr. Smith, the matter to be deferred until next meeting, was adopted by unanimous vote. 73-476 Motion of Mr. Smith and seconded by Mr. Early, that J. A. Cales, Jr. be advised without interfering with his operation and urge him to press for speedy trials for the police officers who have been indicted and suspended without pay as this is be- coming a hardship on their families, w~s adopted by unanimous vote. 73-47~ - Motion of Mr. Johnson and seconded by Mr. Wentz, that before the stop light is installed in Sweetbriar that we have a report before the next Council meeting in order to discuss the matter, was adopted by unanimous vote.
