No~embe~ 1~. 1Q73 <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Holley, and seconded by Mr. Johnson, to close nominations, Mrs. Clarke <br />Mrs. Clover and Mrs. Thompson, were re-elected to the Library Board for a term of three <br />years, expiring December 1, 1976, was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br /> 73-471 Motion of Mr. Smith and seconded by Mr. Johnson, that the Council meet in <br />an executive session prior to the next regularly scheduled Council meeting for th~ purpos <br />of: <br /> <br />(1) Discussing appointments to Boards and Commissions. <br />(2) Discussing the disposition of City property. <br />(3) Consultation with Counsel pertaining to legal matters, <br /> <br />was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Early Johnson, King, Smith, Wentz <br />Nays: Holley <br /> <br /> 73-472 - The following letter received from Ms. Lucille A. Carpenter, Secretary, <br />Federation of Civic Clubs, was read: <br /> <br /> "The members of th'e Federation of Civic Clubs of the City of Portsmouth voted to go <br />on record as requesting City Council to conduct a study of the present curfew law and <br />adopt an ordinance taking action to correct any inadequacy in the present l~w." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Johnson and seconded by Mr. Early, to be referred to the City Attorney <br />and advise Ms. Carpenter as to action taken, was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br />73-473 - The following letter received from Mayor Barnes was read: <br /> <br /> "I hereby offer my resignation through you <br />Portsmouth City Council oN the following bodies <br />Countil: <br /> <br />(City Clerk) to the members of the <br />where I have been representing the City <br /> <br />SVPDC TVDC <br />TTDC HRAC <br />SWAV PIF <br />STAMPS Finance Commission <br /> <br />and any other body I may have missed. <br /> <br /> I would also like for you to advise Mayor Roy Martin of resignation as a member of <br />the Transportation Committee, U. S. Conference of Mayors. <br /> <br /> Yon should advise the chairman of each of these bodies and the members of TTDC of <br />which I was Chairman." ' <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Johnson and seconded by Mr. Smith, the matter to be deferred until <br />next meeting, was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br /> 73-476 Motion of Mr. Smith and seconded by Mr. Early, that J. A. Cales, Jr. be <br />advised without interfering with his operation and urge him to press for speedy trials <br />for the police officers who have been indicted and suspended without pay as this is be- <br />coming a hardship on their families, w~s adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br /> 73-47~ - Motion of Mr. Johnson and seconded by Mr. Wentz, that before the stop light <br />is installed in Sweetbriar that we have a report before the next Council meeting in order <br />to discuss the matter, was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br />Motion of Mr. Holley and seconded by Mr. Johnson, the meeting adjourned at 8:35 p.m. <br /> <br />APPROVED - <br /> <br />Vice Mayor <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
