The present section of the Code grants
reciprocity to any person having an established place of business and paying business
license tax to the Cities of Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake and Suffolk. The
amendment would allow the City to administratively accept contractors from any other
city when that city grants the same privilege to the contractors registered in our
City. This would eliminate the Code having to be amended to add or subtract names
of specific cities.

We often have requests from cities in this area and from electrical contractors
working in our City for reciprocal agreements to prevent examination by each city of
every contractor. This would eliminate delays required when the ordinance must be
amended by adding the name of a city involved, provided the city had a reciprocal ag
with the City of Portsmouth."

On motion of Mr. King and seconded by Mr. Holley, the following ordinance was
approved on first reading, and by the following vote:

"AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, 1973,
BY AMENDING SECTION 10-91 THEREOF PERTAINING TO RECIPROCITY WITH OTHER
LOCALITIES WITH REGARD TO CERTIFICATION OF ELECTRICIANS."

Ayes: Holley, Johnson, King, Wentz, Barnes
Nays: None

74-115 - "I submit the attached ordinance and recommend it be placed on first
reading.
