276

Apm.LL 2~1_ !~74

absolutely no where to drain. This has. created an intolerable health hazard. The open
ditches also serve as a perfect garbage disposal for the litter of passers-by. Ditches
over~filt_witA<-every raip~ftood~ng'the lots wi~h_'standingfwa~er~_~Some to the point of
flooded foundations of the houses. New townhouses to the south and Portsmouth Blvd, to
the North, both with curbs and gutters, did nothing to relieve our drainage problems.
Southdale is comprised of only tow streets of which both have become thoroqghfares for
the townhouses residents. The increased traffic on our narrow streets creates still anoth
hazard. Oncoming cars must usually stop and let one pass before the other. This is due
to the fact that residents must park beyond the open ditches well into the street right
of waz. Southdale has become the "forgotten community" that has been pushed aside for
more than ten years. Just ask some of our well established residents. Southdale is more
than "a good place for a city pumping station". It is a trhieving community wishing to
express its' needs in hope that they may be dealt with now, not a decade from now. Curbs
and gutters along with the necessary street improvements is the only feasible solution in
the eyes of the taxpayers of Southdale. Such improvements can only make Southdale a bette
community for all. Signed by Helen L. Sherrill, 10S0 Martin Avenue and others"

Motion of Mr. Johnson and seconded by Mr. Smith, the matter to be referred to the
City Manager for consideration, was adopted by unanimous vote.

air
of:

74-180 Motion Of Mr. Smith and seconded~ by Mr. Johnson, that the Council meet in
executive session prior to the next regularly scheduled Council meeting for the purpose

(1) Discussing appointments to Boards and Commissions;
(2) Discussing~the disposition of City property;
(3) Consultati~ with Couh~el pertaining to legal matters;

was adopted by the following ~ote:

Ayes: Early, Johnson, King, Smith, Wentz, Barnes
Nays: None

Motion of Mr, Smith and seconded by Mr. Johnson, the meeting adjourned at 10:05 p.m.

APPROVED

City Clerk
