this new facility be oriented toward the family instead of the business community. In
that respect, we intend to offer new programs such as tennis, outside running tracks, and
more extensive, swimming courses. City Park is a natural location inthat it is centrally
located to the schools and is in the center of the city. If land at City Park could be
acquired from the city through a long~term lease; we have plans of incorporating swimmin~
programs in connection with the schools and also there is a possibility that certain
lities could be jointly used in connection with the Recreational Commission. We also
plan to raise in connection with our new building, ample funds to be used for the con-
struction of a badly needed swimming pool at our branch on Effingham Street.

The Board of Directors of the Portsmouth YMCA would appreciate the City Council
looking into this matter and advising us of your views. We are open to any suggestions
that you may have and would appreciate the opportunity of appearing before the City Counci
to discuss or answer questions concerning the location and construction of the new Ports.
YMCA. If land at City Park ~s available, I am sure that the citizens of Portsmouth, the
City Council, and our bbard at the YMCA will take great pride in the structure that we
plan to build on that location."
