Bang,land Richard F. <br />exFiring December 31, 1975. <br /> <br />Council Trustees-At-Large <br /> <br /> Wood, Sr., re-elected to serve a <br /> <br />term of one year, <br /> <br /> Cemetery Trustees <br /> <br /> R. T. Williams to <br />replace R. D. Ottavio. <br /> <br />fill the vacancy created by A. P. Johnson, <br /> <br />Jr.; Roy W. <br /> <br />Cherry to <br /> <br /> Planning Commission <br /> <br /> E. G. Corprew, Jr., to serve a form of four years, expiring January 1, 1979. <br /> <br /> Motion~of Mr. Barnes and seconded by Mr. Elliott, nominations to be closed and members <br />were elected to the above Boards and Commissions for term of office designated, and by <br />unanimous vote. <br /> <br /> 74-535 - Motion of Mr. Elliott and seconded by Mr. Barnes, that the Council meet in an <br />executive session prior to the next regularly scheduled Council meeting for~the purpose of: <br /> <br />(1) Discussing appointments to Boards and Commissions. <br />(2) Discussing the disposition of City property. <br />(3) Consultation with Counsel pertaining to legal matters; <br /> <br />was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Barnes, Early, Elliott, Oast, Wentz, Davis <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> 74-536 - Motion of Mr. Wentz and seconded by Mr. Etliott, to request a 30-day extension <br />of the time to reply to the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers for study and recommendations on <br />Craney Island and further directing the City Attorney to draft an appropriate resolution <br />requesting same; the motion was adopted by the following vote and the following resolution <br />was prepared in response hereto: <br /> <br />Ayes: Barnes Early, Elliott, Oast, W~ntz, Davis <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />~IA RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE U. S. <br />THE DEADLINE FOR COMMENTS ON THE <br />DAYS. <br /> <br />A~Y CORPS OF ENGINEERS FOR <br /> <br /> EXTENSION OF <br />CRANEY ISLAND REPORT FOR AT LEAST THIRTY <br /> <br /> ~EREAS, the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers on December 6, 1974 announced completion <br />of a report dealing with the future of Craney Island and invited any comments from interestec <br />parties within thirty (30) days; i.e., on or before the 6th of January, 1975; and <br /> <br /> ~EREAS, the report in the form of three major documents was~not available to City <br />of Portsmouth officials until this morning of Tuesday, December 17, 1974; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, there remain but twelve working days during this Yuletide period, and this <br />is not deemed adequate for the City Manager and his staff and advisory agencies such as <br />the Craney Island Study Commission to analyze and prepare a report on these three documents; <br />and <br /> <br /> I~EREAS, City Council is not scheduled to meet in regular session until January 14, <br />1975, more than one week after the due date for comments. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council that it requests an extension of the <br />dealine for comments on the Craney Island report. This request is for extension of at <br />least thirty (30) days during which officials of the City of Portsmouth in which Craney <br />Island is located may confer with officials of the Commonwealth ~nd prepare a proper report <br />for the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers; and <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is hereby instructed to forward this resolu- <br />tion to the Board of Engineers for Rivers and Harbors, Kingman Building, Fort Belvoir, <br />Virginia." <br /> <br /> 74-537 - Motion of Mr. Barnes and seconded by Mr. ~lliott, that the City Manager to <br />consider some appropriate recognition of Auxiliary Policemen for services rendered to the <br />City, was a~ppted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Elliott and seconded by Mr. Early, the meeting adjourned at 11:30 p.m. <br /> <br />APPROVED - <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
