Moody, Attorney, was presented: <br /> <br />"Re: Petition of Thomas C. Culpepper, Rodman Avenue Closing <br /> <br />The above matter has been continued on the Council Agenda to April 22, 1975. <br /> <br /> Upon the filing of the petition herein Mr. Culpepper was advised that the City Traffic <br />Engineer was of the opinion that this street should be closed, and that the Police Departmenl <br />Fire Department, and other City.Departments, were no~ opposed to such closure. He was not <br />aware at the time of the serious opposition to such closure that has been expressed by his <br />business neighbors. <br /> <br /> In view of the opposition that has developed <br />he is of the opinion that it would be in the best <br />for the petition for closure to be withdrawn. <br /> <br />and the feeling that has been expressed <br />interest of all concerned at this time <br /> <br /> Accordingly, as attorney <br />request that Mr. Culpepper be <br />matter." <br /> <br />for Mr. Thomas C. Culpepper and in his behalf, I respectfully <br />permitted to withdraw his application for closure in this <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Oast and seconded by Mr. Elliott, that application for closure of <br />Rodman Avenue (8-73-15) be withdrawn, was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br />The following reports from the City Manager were presented: <br /> <br /> ~5-159 "Consideration of an ordinance on first reading to appropriate $7,270.50 in <br />the Federal Grants Fund for two summer interns and dictating and t~mnscribing equipment <br />for the office of the Commonwealth's Attorney, <br /> <br /> This appropriation will provide the Commonwealth's Attorney with two law interns for <br />the summer ~onths. These interns will be utilized for research; brief writing; trial, <br />courtroom and office assistance. Also included in this appropriation is dictating and <br />transcribing equipment needed by the Commonwealth's Attorney for imrpoving the efficiency <br />of his office. There are ~3~_3.73 in local funds required as a match for this program and <br />this amount has been budgeted in the General Operating Budget for 1974-75. The City Manager <br />recommends approval of this ordinance on first reading." <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. glliott and seconded by Mr. Holley, the following ordinance was ap- <br />proved on first reading, and by unanimous Yore: <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE TO APPROPRIATE $7,270.50 FROM THE FEDERAL <br />SOq~MER INTERNS AND DICTATING/TRANSCRIBING EQUIPMENT FOR <br />COMMONWEALTH'S ATTORNEY." <br /> <br />GRANTS FUND FOR TWO <br />THE OFFICE OF THE <br /> <br /> 75-160 - "Consideration of an ordinance on first reading to appropriate $6,200 from the <br />Capital Improvement Fund for repairs to the incinerator chimney. <br /> <br /> This appropriation will provide the necessary funds for the labor and materials <br />required to repair the catwalks and ladder on the incinerator, replace all steel handrails <br />on upper catwalk, replace broken glass in aircraft warnzng beacons, and secure lighting con- <br />duit ga ladder and handrails. The City Council authorized an engineering study for conver- <br />sion to>tarbnlent~air system, but requested additional information regarding repair and <br />conversion costs prior to proceeding. The repairs requested in this appropriation are <br />necessary in order that the additional information requested can be obtained in a safe manne~ <br />due to the condition of the handrails and catwalk at the incinerator. The City Manager re- <br />commends approval of this ordinance on first reading. <br /> <br /> On molion of Mr. Oast and seconded by Mr. Elliott, the following ordinance was approved <br />on first reading, and by unanimous vote: <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE TO APPROPRIATE $6,200 FROM THE CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT FUND FOR REPAIRS <br />TO THE INCINERATOR CHIMNEY." <br /> <br /> 75-161 "Consideration of an ordinance on first reading to appropriate $26,700 in <br />the Capital Improvement Fund for construction of a voting machine storage building. <br /> <br /> This appropriation will provide the necessary funds for construction of a voting machin~ <br />storage building to be constructed adjacent to the Building Maintenance Division's building <br />at the City Public Works Compound. This project is included in the 1974-75 Capital Improve- <br />ment Work Program and was estimated to cost $26,910. The City Manager ~ecommends approval <br />of this ordinance on first reading." <br /> <br /> ~otion:o£ Mr. Barnes and seconded by Hr. Elliott the following be approved on first <br />reading. <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE TO APPROPRIATE $26,700 FROM THE CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT FUND FOR <br />CONSTRUCTION OF A VOTING MACHINE STORAGE BUILDING," <br /> <br /> Substitute motion of Mr. Holley and seconded by Mr. Barnes, the matter be referred to <br />the City Manager for further study, was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br /> <br />
