267

December 9, 1975

75-596 Report relative to police service calls in Victory Gardens Apartment~complex:

"At the October 14, 1975, meeting of the City Council I presented a report relative
to a petition from the residents of Victory Garden Apartments which requested a 10 o~'clock
curfew for children under eighteen years of age not with their parents. Information
received from the Chief of Police indicated that calls to the Police Department from this
area were received at all hours of the day and night and showed no pattern, of either time
of type.

The report contained a statement that the Uniform Patrol of the Police Department intens:
fled the patrol effort in the area of Victory Gardens and Council requested that another
report be made to determine the affect of increased patrol on the number of calls received.
Attached you will find a record of police service calls by hour of day for the period of
September 1, 1974, to October 51, 1975. This chart indicates the number of calls generated
from Victory Garden Apartments, the number of police service calls City wide and a percentage
of City wide service calls generated from Victory Garden Apartments. The number of calls
from this area are a very minute percentage of the total calls City wide and do not indicate
this being a high incident area.

The Chief of Police has recently reviewed police patrol activity in the Victory Gardens
area with the Uniform Patrol Watch Commanders. They collectively report that the area has
been extremely, quiet with only periodic problems arising. Increased patrol may have contribu
ted to this."

Motion of Mr. Oast and seconded by Mr. Elliott, the report to be received as information
was adopted by unanimous vote.

- NEW BUSINESS -

75-539 - John W.
