<br /> At a Called Meeting of the City Council on Tuesday, May 11, 1999, there were
<br />present:
<br />
<br />*Mayor James W. Holley III, Vice Mayor Bernard D. Griffin, Sr., Cameron C. Pitts, *P.
<br />Ward P, obinett, Jr., J. Thomas Berm III, William E. Moody, Jr., Charles B. Whitehurst,
<br />Sr., City Manager Ronald W. Massie, City Attorney G. Timothy Oksman.
<br />
<br />99 - 108 - The following call for the meeting was read:
<br />
<br /> "Please attend a Called Meeting of the City Council to be held in the City
<br />Manager's Conference Room, 801 Crawford Street, 6th floor, 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, May
<br />11, 1999, for the purpose of a Public Work Session.
<br />
<br />In addition, you may consider a motion to go into an Executive Session.
<br />
<br />By order of the Mayor."
<br />
<br />99- 109- The following items were discussed in Public Work Session:
<br />
<br />1. Regional Highway Priorities
<br />2. Daycare Report
<br />3. Farmers Market
<br />
<br /> Motion by Mr. Pitts, seconded by Mr. Whitehurst, to go into Executive Session
<br />pursuant to provisions of Section 2.1-344 of the Code of Virginia, to discuss or consider
<br />the following:
<br />
<br /> Appointments by council to committees, boards or commissions, as permitted by
<br />subsection (A)(1);
<br />
<br /> The condition, acquisition or use of real property for a public purpose, or the
<br />disposition of publicly held property, as permitted by subsection (A)(3). The subject
<br />property is in the downtown area of the city; and
<br />
<br /> The investing of public funds where competition or bargaining is involved where,
<br />if made public initially, the financial interest of the city would be adversely affected, as
<br />permitted by subsection (A)(6). The public investment involves the empowerment zone.
<br />
<br /> Motion by Mr. Pitts, and seconded by Mr. Moody, pursuant to Section 2.1-344.1
<br />of the Code of Virginia, certifying that to the best of the Council Member's knowledge
<br />during the immediately preceding Executive Session of the City Council:
<br />
<br />1. Only public business matters lawfully exempted from open meeting
<br /> requirements by the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, and
<br />
<br />Only such public business matters as were identified in the motion by which
<br />the Executive Session was convened, were heard, discussed or considered
<br />in the meeting by the City Council.
<br />
<br />The motion was adopted by unanimous vote.
<br />
<br />On motion, meeting adjourned.
